Aaron Rodgers does not need surgery despite fracturing his left wrist on Sunday, Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin has confirmed. The NFL legend, 41, was forced off in the second quarter of the Steelers' 34-12 win over the Cincinnati Bengals due to a problem with his non-throwing wrist. There were initial concerns that he suffered a 'slight break' to his left wrist, and NFL insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero have confirmed that is indeed the case.

However, after he underwent further tests on Monday, Tomlin has revealed that his starting quarterback will not be going under the knife and instead left the door open for him to play against the Chicago Bears this Sunday. 'It's about bracing it and securing it for his comfort and safety and then it's about how functional it is,' the Pittsburgh coach said. Tomlin added that pain tolerance will not be an issue for Rodgers despite the fracture to his wrist.

Footage showed the four-time MVP landing on his hand as he was tackled while throwing the ball on a second-and-goal. He remained under center for one more play before heading to the sidelines. There appeared to be blood on his hand, according to ESPN.

Mason Rudolph came on to replace Rodgers and the backup quarterback led the Steelers to a win that takes them to 6-4 for the season. It was initially reported that he was battling a hand injury before Tomlin confirmed it was a wrist problem.

'He was excited about the win,' Tomlin said about Rodgers after Sunday's victory. 'I just talked to him, but that's all we talked about. We didn't talk about his injury. We talked about the significance of the win.' The 2010 Super Bowl winner has enjoyed a fine start to his career in Pittsburgh. He has led the Steelers to the top of the AFC North in what he is 'pretty sure' will be his final season in the NFL.

Rodgers moved to Pittsburgh after two miserable years with the New York Jets, which began with an Achilles tear just four snaps into his debut.
