Criticising the National Democratic Alliance government in Puducherry for the delay in electing Speaker and allocating portfolios, former Chief Minister and Congress leader V. Narayanasamy on Tuesday said Chief Minister N. Rangasamy and the five Ministers should tender their resignation if they are unable to discharge constitutional responsibilities after getting voted to power.
“It is almost two months since the NDA government headed by Mr. Rangasamy assumed charge. The Speaker election is yet to be held and portfolios allocated to the five Ministers. If they cannot discharge constitutional responsibilities, the Chief Minister and Ministers should resign,” he said addressing a press conference here.
Attributing the delay in electing Speaker and allocating portfolios to the power struggle between the All India N R Congress headed by Mr. Rangasamy and the Bharatiya Janata Party within the NDA fold in Puducherry, the Chief Minister said both the parties have failed to provide governance after getting elected to power.
“It is also a lesson to the voters of Puducherry. New governments that were voted to power in the 2026 Assembly elections have started functioning properly. But those who have come to power in Puducherry are not bothered about governance and public welfare,” the former Chief Minister said.
The Congress leader said a probe should be conducted into alleged irregularities in the procurement of rice under the State Free Rice scheme by the Puducherry State Cooperative Consumer Federation Limited. There are complaints of tender violations by the firm selected for the procurement of rice, he added.
