Workers enrolled under the Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar Ajeevika Mission Grameen (VB-G RAM G) scheme will be eligible to get a minimum of ₹347 as daily wage in the Union Territory (UT).
The VB-G-RAM scheme, which has replaced the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee programme, was rolled out in Puducherry at an event held in Villianur on Thursday (July 3, 2026).
Launching the scheme, Chief Minister N. Rangasamy said it would ensure more wages as well as man-days of work. The number of working days has been increased to 125 days per year from the previous count of 100 days. The workers in Puducherry will get a minimum of ₹347 as daily wage, the Chief Minister said.
Data available with the government showed that there are 1,15,049 workers registered under the job guarantee scheme in Puducherry. The government has issued 77,783 job cards and at present, there are 66,612 active workers under the scheme in Puducherry.
Of the total active workers, 56,350 are women, 18,975 belong to the Scheduled Castes, and 212 are from the Schedule Tribe communities in the UT. To ensure transparency in enlisting eligible beneficiaries, eKYC verification of around 66,469 active workers have been completed. Bank accounts have been opened for all eligible card holders, an official told The Hindu.
“We have, so far, generated 1,87,233 man-days for the scheme. For the current year, the Union Ministry of Rural Development has allocated ₹40.56 crore for implementing the scheme. The Puducherry government will contribute an additional ₹14 crore for wages and ₹2 crore for material procurement. The workers will get their wage credited into their bank accounts,” the official said.
