A toddler who died in a scorching car has been identified, with her grieving family now lashing out at their babysitter - who they say is to blame. 

Ovilia Cristina Lopez Ramirez said her entire world shifted on Sunday after her two-year-old daughter, Brittany Nicole Láinez Lopez, died in the back of a hot car in nearly 101 degree heat in Hallandale Beach, Florida. 

The heartbroken mother told Local 10 that she entrusted her only child with a paid babysitter that she had 'no previous issues with.' 

But on the day of the tragedy, the toddler was picked up by the babysitter's father who left Brittany in the back of the 2012 Honda Odyssey, Lopez Ramirez told the outlet. 

Brittany was in the back of the car for nearly three hours, from around 9am to almost 1pm, while her mother was at work. 

According to the grieving mother, the babysitter's father suffers from dementia. 

Brittany was transported to hospital 'by the parties involved' where she was pronounced dead, police said in a statement. 

'The babysitter was responsible for having the child and that's where the babysitter lives,' Hallandale Beach Police spokeswoman Grace Mariot said to WSVN.

'We were called from the hospital staff letting us know that this had occurred, we believe the baby was transported by the babysitter to the hospital.'

While she was working at a restaurant, police arrived to inform the heartbroken mother that her daughter had passed.  

Now, her family and the community is seeking justice for Lopez Ramirez's baby girl. 

'On Tuesday, July 7th, the police notified Cristina that no charges would be pressed against the caregiver or the father because he has a "mental illness" and because there wasn't a contract for the babysitter to be taking care of Brittany,' a GoFundMe read. 

'Justice has to be served for this baby.'

The fundraiser said Brittany's mother is 'very hardworking and humble,' and lost her daughter 'due to someone else's carelessness.'

'The police wont let her see her babygirl until we find a funeral home for her, in which we found and are now all trying to raise money for,' the fundraiser said. 

As of Thursday afternoon, the page had garnered over $2,000. 

Detectives told the Miami Herald that they are awaiting a final report from the Broward Medical Examiner's Office before approaching the Broward State Attorney's Office to determine 'whether criminal charges are appropriate.'

'The Medical Examiner’s Office has since released the child’s remains to the family’s designated funeral home, allowing funeral arrangements and visitation to proceed,' police said. 

In a statement, Hallandale Police Chief Michel Michel said: 'This tragedy has touched our entire community. While nothing can undo the pain this family is experiencing, our hearts remain with the child’s family.'

'We hope this child’s story inspires every caregiver to adopt one simple habit: always check the back seat before leaving your vehicle. Taking one extra moment could prevent another family from experiencing this unimaginable loss,' Michel added. 

The tragedy left neighbors stunned.

'I couldn't get over that,' resident Theresa Ogden told WSVN. 'It's just unbelievable. How can you just get out of your car and not know that you have a baby?'

Another nearby resident described the incident as 'terrible, horrible.'

A second neighbor added, 'It's devastating. Another child has lost their life.'

Brittany had just celebrated her second birthday in May, as her mother told Local 10: 'I just want justice.'

The Daily Mail reached out to the Hallandale Police Department, the Broward Medical Examiner's Office and the Broward State Attorney's Office for comment.
