In what is fast becoming a recurring theme there were few actors on sight as the 77th annual Cannes Film Festival welcomed its latest premiere on Monday evening. 

With fashion once again dominating the Croisette, it was Iris Law - the daughter of actors Jude Law and Sadie Frost - who claimed the spotlight as new film The Shrouds launched in-competition at the annual ceremony. 

The 23-year old was joined by fellow model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and bona fide screen star Diane Kruger on the red carpet for director David Cronenberg's eagerly anticipated new release. 

The arthouse horror will get its theatrical release in France on May 25, but Iris and her fellow guests were given an early screening as Cannes entered its second and final week. 

The model commanded attention as she stepped out in one of the red carpet's most daring looks.

She donned a one-shouldered white minidress, with an uneven and extra short hemline to showcase every inch of her long legs.

The revealing number featured sheer lace panelling across the bodice, allowing a racy flash of Iris' slender figure underneath.

Adding an edge to the angelic look, Iris accessorised with a black belt and matching slouchy suede boots.

She completed her fashion forward look with dainty diamond earrings, artfully tousled hair and a light palette of makeup to accentuate her youthful beauty.

While fellow model Rosie, 37, put on a glamorous display in a flowing black chiffon gown with a long train.

Over the top of the boatneck dress, she draped sheer floaty overlay that covered her arms, while leaving her entire back exposed.

The blonde beauty elevated her height in patent leather high heels and added a slew of chunky gold pieces of jewellery.

Completing her sultry look, Rosie slicked her hair back in a twisted bun and sported a dramatic smoky eyeshadow.

Not to be outdone, Diane, 47, dazzled in a show-stopping purple gown, encrusted in thousands of gemstones.

The actress stood out from the crowd in the sleeveless number, which boasted a unique and architectural neckline.

The glittering gown was ruched to showcase Diane's tiny waist, while a small side slit in the bodice gave the look a daring touch.

Adding even more sparkle to her ensemble, the German star added diamond earrings and metallic silver platform heels.

She slicked her blonde hair to the side into a finger wave style and matched her makeup to her outfit with a glittery purple eyeshadow.

Diane plays three roles in The Shrouds, playing the main character's late wife Becca and her twin sister, as well as a virtual avatar.

The Inglourious Basterds star was cast in the role after Léa Seydoux dropped out of the project.

The Shrouds follows Karsh, played by Vincent Cassel, who in his grief after his wife's death, invents a revolutionary technology that allows people to watch their lost loved ones in their graves.

The film was written by legendary director David inspired partly by the death of his wife, Carolyn, from cancer at the age of 66 in 2017. 

Diane admitted that felt pressure to get the film right for him, saying: 'I took it hard. I wanted it to be special for him.' 

She described the movie as being about 'what it really means to let go of someone physically'.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, she added: 'It definitely is a movie that made me think about my mortality in a big way. Every one of us has thought about what it would be like to lay in a coffin.'

Diane also spoke about premiering the film at Cannes, saying: 'Cannes is such a particular atmosphere and moment. 

'They love David there, so I’m hoping that they can see the true heart this film has, apart from the other weirdness that’s going on in the movie. 

'I’m hoping that it’s a very accessible film for audiences, maybe more so than some of his other work. I’m hoping they are tender with his story.'

Diane joined David and the rest of the cast on the red carpet, where they all held hands in a line together.

David looked dapper in a black tuxedo and plain T-shirt, while shielding his eyes behind futuristic white sunglasses.

Vincent, 57, opted for a purple suit with a dark shirt and coordinating tie, adding a diamond brooch and tinted glasses.

Sandrine Holt, who plays Soo-Min in the film, looked the picture of elegance in a draped black silt gown, with a gold metal flower at her waist.

Elizabeth Saunders, who stars as Gray Foner, dazzled in an emerald sequinned gown as she posed alongside a dashing Guy Pearce, who plays Maury.

They were joined by the film's producers Saïd Ben Saïd and Martin Katz, as well as Creative director of Yves Saint Laurent, Anthony Vaccarello.

Also in appearance at the premiere, was Oscar nominee Greta Gerwig, who looked regal in a pale gold gown.

The Barbie and Little Women director, 40, stunned in the off-the-shoulder number, with was adorned with diamond detailing.

She added extra glamour with dangling bejewelled earrings and a classic red lip for a pop of colour.

While Michelle Rodriguez exuded sophistication in a red gown that clung to her curves, with a halterneck design.

Virginie Efira looked stunning in a wraparound black dress, boasting a lowcut neckline and thigh-high slit.

Lady Victoria Hervey stepped out in an intricate silver gown with feathered detailing and a sheer skirt.

She added a matching chiffon cape wrapped around her arms, which flowed to the floor in a long train.
