Dowoo Insys has begun construction of its second manufacturing plant in Vietnam as it expands production capacity for ultra-thin glass (UTG).

The company said on July 8 that it held a groundbreaking ceremony for the second plant at its Vietnamese subsidiary, Dowoo Vina. The new facility will be built on the site of the existing first plant (V1) in Thai Nguyen Province, north of Hanoi.

Dowoo Insys currently has monthly UTG production capacity of 1 million units at its first Vietnam plant. The second plant will add capacity for up to 2 million units per month.

The new facility will consist of a steel-frame building with a site area of 7,649 pyeong and a total floor area of 5,323 pyeong. The first phase, scheduled for completion by January 2027, will include the factory building, cleanrooms, utility systems, and electrical and fire protection facilities. Production equipment and other infrastructure will be installed in phases in line with market demand.

The first-phase investment totals approximately 26 billion won. The project will be financed entirely with funds held by the Vietnamese subsidiary, without financial support from headquarters or external borrowing.

More than 100 people attended the groundbreaking ceremony, including senior officials from Thai Nguyen Province, representatives from the Korean Embassy in Vietnam, and executives from customers and business partners.

"Construction of our second Vietnam plant is a proactive investment to prepare for future expansion of the UTG market," said Ok Kyung-seok, chief executive officer of Dowoo Insys. "We will strengthen our global competitiveness by developing new markets and continuing our investment in research and development."
