The Duke of Edinburgh appeared in high spirits as he attended a theatre performance at Wilton's Music Hall in London this evening.

Prince Edward, 60, joined TV personality Paul Roseby and the Chair of Trustees of the National Youth Theatre, Dawn Airey CBE, to watch a production of The War of the Worlds.

Also joining King Charles's younger brother was the Executive Director of Wilton's Music Hall, Holly Kendrick.

The royal, dressed to the nines in a dapper black suit jacket, blue shirt and contrasting green trousers, appeared cheerful as he took pictures and greeted attendees at the press showing.

Edward, who is the patron of the National Youth Theatre, observed the play, based on a sci-fi novel originally written by H.G Wells that chronicles the events of a Martian invasion.

The charitable organisation provides onstage and backstage opportunities to people from a diverse range of backgrounds, working to provide them with access to industry-leading professionals.

Dame Helen Mirren, Daniel Craig and Colin Firth are among the notable former members who have attended.

Despite its A-list alumni, The National Youth Theatre claims it is not a 'star-making factory' but a place to guide young people creatively.

The organisation established in 1956 by Michael Croft and Kenneth Spring, was the first youth theatre in the world.

It comes after Duke of Edinburgh enjoyed a bumper afternoon at Hankley Common, where he donned a full camo suit to attend training exercises.

Prince Edward looked fetching in khaki on Wednesday as he joined British soldiers for a training session at Hankley Common in Surrey.

The youngest child of the late queen, Edward is Royal Colonel of the 1st Battalion London Guards, a title her took over in May 2022.

Arriving at the military base camp in Surrey, the royal donned a full camo suit including a long collared jacket and a pair of trousers in the same pattern.

The royal, who is married to Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, looked smart in a black suit blazer, blue shirt, and contrasting grey trousers

He donned smart cherry red lace up boots and and a classic khaki beret with the badge of the Prince's regiment embossed on the front of the cap.

The prince wore full military regalia, which appeared in pristine condition compared to soldiers training alongside him - some of whom had mud smeared across their faces.

He wore a military green belt wrapped around his heavy coat during the training session.

His role as Royal Colonel is one of eight military appointments he holds across the UK and overseas.

The London Guards is a formation within the British Army - they are made up of the reserve companies of the Grenadier, Coldstream, Scots and Irish.

As part of his role, the prince regularly meets up with service personnel and their families.

The prince has a long military history having served in the Royal Marines from 1983 to 1987 as a University Cadets. After graduating, he left the armed forces to pursue a career in theatre production.

Edward joined soldiers who were training at Honkley Common, a nature reserve in Elstead, Surrey which also serves as a military training camp.

The father-of-four paused at one point during the training to chat with neighbouring soldiers who were pictured cross legged on the ground reading a map.

The prince was pictured staring moodily into the distance as he stood amongst the heather.

Edward has shown a longstanding interest in the arts and is patron of the National Youth Theatre

It comes after the prince and his wife, Sophie took a four day trip to Malta, during which they marked the nation's 60th anniversary independence and celebrated the country's shared heritage and continuing collaboration with the UK.

During their four day stay, the couple visited Villa Guardamangia - in Pieta, Malta, which was the former residence of the late queen and her husband when they were young newlyweds.

The Maltese villa holds special significance for the Royal Family as it was where the late Queen Elizabeth II and her husband lived between 1949 and 1951, while the prince was stationed in Malta as a serving Royal Navy officer.

During their visit, the Edinburghs met Elizabeth Pule whose mother, Jessie, was a housekeeper when the late Queen and Philip lived in the villa.

They were pictured chatting with representatives from Heritage Malta, who explained what work was being done to restore the historic royal abode - currently in disarray - to its former glory.

Duchess Sophie looked radiant in a floor length white chiffon gown, which was patterned with bright red poppies.

She accessorised the outfit with a beige belt pulled in at the waist and a tan coloured clutch bag.

The duchess wore her bright blonde hair down at her shoulders, with a half up do pulling the front of her tresses out of her face.

Sophie carried a pair of stylish looking sunglasses in one hand, offering her protection from the bright Maltese sun.

Edward and Sophie strolled the grounds of the impressive abode, stopping to pose for a picture of the balcony where the late Queen and Phillip were pictured 70 years ago.
