Kate Hudson has opened up about raising a second generation of nepo babies.

The actress, 45, who is currently in London for work, is the daughter of Hollywood star Goldie Hawn and musician Bill Hudson.

And it seems talent runs in the family as she revealed her eldest son, Ryder, 21 - who she shares with ex-husband and The Black Crowes musician Chris Robinson - is also a performer. 

During an appearance on Vernon Kay's BBC Radio 2 show on Thursday, Kate was played a 2008 clip in which she spoke about her mother recognising her passion for performing before she even knew it herself.

Reacting to the clip, Kate said: 'I think she [Goldie] honestly knew that there was no choice before I knew what I was even going to do. 

'And I can see it in my son [Ryder]. Now, you know when your kid has that. He doesn't know it yet, but I do, and I think my parents kind of have the same thing.'

Kate continued: 'He's got it. He's got it! It's so crazy to hear that, because my son is literally in performing arts school right now. He's 21. Ah! Well, he'll be fine.

'Oh go on, why are you "Ah?"' Vernon asked.

Gushing over her son, Kate replied: 'Because he's so funny and he's so smart, he's very self-possessed and, and he's an amazing person. 

'And I just know that, you know, I think our family does a really good job of, like, you know, kids have a hard time thinking that they have to do something so significant, which means to them be seen.

'But like, significance is, like, if you're happy putting what you're putting out in the world, you know? And I just, I hope that I think he's got that, I think he's going to be all right.'

'Your face has just literally lit up,' Vernon replied.

'Yeah, I mean. That's my kid, that's my little baby. I was so young too, so it's fun to have, you know, an adult child that I can hang with,' Kate explained. 

'Yeah, 21 now you can kind of,' Vernon said before Kate added: 'Oh yeah. It's, it's like the 90s!'

Kate was 23 years old when she welcomed Ryder with then-husband Chris, to whom she was married from 2000 to 2007.  

She previously told People, she 'just can't believe that I was only a couple years older than him when I decided to have a child,' describing it as a 'wild discovery.'

'The fact that we've been able to get through it together like this, and really, honestly, grow up together, has been incredible,' she said.

Kate is also mum to son Bingham, 12, with former partner, Muse singer Matt Bellamy, and daughter Rani Rose, 5, whom she shares with her fiancé, Danny Fujikawa.

During Vernon's Radio 2 Piano Room show, Kate also performed her 'first ever live gig'.

The award winning actress, who released her first album Glorious last year, showed off her voice as she was accompanied by the BBC Concert Orchestra.

Kate performed a classic track, Talk About Love, a new song – Right On Time, and a cover of Ariana Grande’s we can’t be friends (wait for your love).

Speaking live during the show, she admitted she was 'nervous' but was 'excited' to sing live. 

She said: 'I'm excited. I'm a little nervous. It's my first live show, ever! So I'm just honoured to be here. 'I love to sing. I love to write and it's this getting out in front of people has been really, really amazing for me. Very different.'

After the show, Kate was spotted making a low-key exit out of the studios in Maida Vale.

She wrapped up in a long grey wool coat, chunky black boots, and toted her belongings in a black Chanel bag.

Still with her glamorous up do from the performance, Kate appeared in high spirits as she flashed the cameras a smile before getting in a cab.
