Iran has for years spoken of the retaliation against the US leader for the assassination of a general during his first term, but tensions have risen after the US killed the former supreme leader

A US ally has shared new intelligence that it said indicated a fresh Iranian plan to kill President Donald Trump.

Israel has shared the information with the US, according to people familiar with the matter and reported by the Wall Street Journal.

For years, Iran has spoken of the retaliation against the US leader for the assassination of Qassem Soleimani during his first term. Soleimani was a top general in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

But tensions have risen to a full-scale war after the US and Israel carried out joint strikes on several key Iranian sites on February 28.

The WSJ said the White House referred them to comments the president made on Wednesday.

Mr Trump on Wednesday alluded to threats to his life while speaking to reporters in Türkiye.

"They want to take out the US leader—me," he said.

"I'm on every list. I saw this morning, I'm on every single one of their lists.

"And so far, I guess I've been a little bit lucky, but that maybe doesn't last very long."

Iranians mourned the Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, who was killed by the US-Israeli strikes at the start of the conflict. Mourners chanted for Mr Trump's death, with some unveiling a banner that read "We Will Kill Trump."

On June 17, the US and Iran signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to bring the war to a close within 60 days.

Washington and Tehran had been working towards securing a lasting peace agreement to bring the conflict to an end, restore international shipping through the vital Strait of Hormuz, and seek to settle an ongoing dispute over Tehran's nuclear programme.

But Mr Trump declared the ceasefire to be "over" at a NATO summit in Türkiye on Wednesday, telling reporters: "I don't want to deal with them anymore. They're scum."
