Unprecedented access has been given to the family of a young woman who became the focus of one of Britain's biggest missing person cases.

In February 2019, 19-year-old Leah Croucher vanished on her way to work from Emerson Valley to Knowlhill in Milton Keynes and her parents - John and Claire - saw their world as they knew it end.

The hunt for their daughter took years as they endured unimaginable heartbreak, with the case having a catastrophic effect on the whole family as Leah's brother Haydon also died just nine months after Leah disappeared.

Told from the perspective of Leah's parents, the true crime TV documentary The Search for Leah Croucher: A Parent's Nightmare will broadcast on U and stream on UandW later in 2026.

In October 2022, Leah's remains were discovered at a home in Loxbeare Drive, Furzton, less than a mile from her home. An inquest determined she had been unlawfully killed by Neil Maxwell, a convicted sex offender.

Maxwell committed suicide in April 2019, two months after Leah's disappearance, in a communal bin cupboard in a block of flats at Campbell Park.

At the time, he had been contracted to maintain the home she was killed in, and was the sole person to have access as the property owners lived abroad.

Leah's disappearance moved the nation and her parents have shown extraordinary courage in the years that followed their daughter's tragic death.

The aim of the documentary is to spark vital conversations about how tragedies like this never happen again.

Series director, Adam Luria, added: "Leah's story is one of the most shocking and heart-breaking that the UK has seen in recent years.

"We're hoping this documentary will support her parents, John and Claire, and her sister, Jade, as they seek changes to British legislation to ensure something like this can't happen to another family in the future."

The coroner concluded that Leah was most likely the victim of an "unwarranted sex attack", though the precise cause of her death remained impossible to determine.

Her remains were discovered in plastic bags in the loft of the property, after a handyman attended the address to investigate and eliminate a foul smell.

The Search for Leah Croucher: A Parent’s Nightmare is in production and will be available to stream on U and U&W in 2026.
