The man, who 'showed a completely unnecessary level of violence' also punched the victim

A man grabbed a pair of metal pliers and began hitting a victim over the head with them in a "shocking" road rage attack. Police were called by a member of the public at 9.20am on March 27, after Craig Easton, 32, was seen driving erratically through Cambridge city centre.

Easton swerved abruptly in front of the victim’s car, forcing him to brake hard. According to Cambridgeshire Police, an argument broke out between the men and both got out of their cars on Lady Margaret Road.

Easton then punched the victim in the face. He proceeded to grab a pair of metal pliers out of his car and began hitting the victim over the head with them.

PC Ellen Young, who investigated, said: “This was a shocking incident where Easton showed a completely unnecessary level of violence, leaving the victim with deep cuts to his head. This will no doubt have a lasting psychological impact on the victim, and it will also stick with the witnesses who were understandably shaken after seeing such a show of violence in broad daylight."

Easton, of Halley Square, Glasgow, who threatened the victim before driving off, was identified by police later that day and arrested. He was jailed for 10 months after admitting affray and dangerous driving on Thursday, July 2, at Peterborough Crown Court. He was also disqualified from driving for one year and five months.

PC Young added: "I’m pleased Easton was quickly identified and has now received a custodial sentence for his actions.”
