Ryanair has issued a statement after a passenger was reportedly "sucked" out of a "dislodged window" up to his shoulders.

The male passenger received medical treatment shortly after the terrifying incident on the Germany-bound jet this morning as the plane was forced to make an urgent landing.

It is reported he was hanging out of the plane window up to his shoulders, with his head exposed outside the jet while his wife desperately "clung" onto his legs.

The Boeing 737-800 flight from Thessaloniki, Greece, to Memmingen, Germany, made a quick U-turn to land back in Greece after the incident occurred shortly after take-off at 5.55am local time, reports the Daily Star.

Reports claims a loud bang was heard before the incident with Ryanair confirming a passenger window had "dislodged inflight".

Videos of the incident have been shared on social media as German publication BILD reports a man was partly 'sucked' through the window.

Speaking to Greek broadcaster ERT, one eyewitness said they saw "his head and shoulders were sticking out". The man's wife was reportedly seen clinging to her husbands legs as other passengers came to their aid.

After taking off at 5.55am local time in Greece, the pilot noticed a problem with the engine over North Macedonia and decided to return to Thessaloniki, The Mirror reports.

It was during the descent that part of the damaged engine reportedly detached and struck a cabin window, causing minor injuries to a 61-year-old man from Serbia. The captain repeatedly shouted "emergency" with the oxygen masks deployed, witnesses said. The plane was at roughly 20,000ft when passengers heard a loud bang.

In a statement, Ryanair said: "A Ryanair flight from Thessaloniki to Memmingen on Friday morning (10 July) returned to Thessaloniki shortly after take-off when a passenger window dislodged inflight. The aircraft landed normally and passengers returned to the terminal.

"One passenger requested and received medical assistance on the ground in Thessaloniki. In order to minimise any delay, a replacement aircraft was arranged to bring passengers to Memmingen which departed Thessaloniki at 9:53 local this morning."
