Weatherly will appear in a season-long arc that reunites his Tony DiNozzo character with the rest of the NCIS team

Michael Weatherly is returning to NCIS! 

On Wednesday, CBS announced that Weatherly would reprise his role as Tony DiNozzo in NCIS’s 2026-27 season. He’ll appear in a season-long arc that reunites his character with the rest of the NCIS team. 

Weatherly starred in 13 seasons of the hit procedural, appearing in over 300 episodes before leaving the show in 2015. Last year, he returned as the character in the Paramount+ spinoff series NCIS: Tony & Ziva. That series – which also starred Cote de Pablo as Ziva David – was canceled after just one season, much to the dismay of loyal fans. There’s no word yet on whether de Pablo will be back as Ziva in the new episodes of NCIS. 

The news of Weatherly’s return to the NCISverse comes shortly after CBS announced that original NCIS star Mark Harmon would have an onscreen role in all 10 episodes of prequel series NCIS: Origins Season 3. His Leroy Jethro Gibbs character will be part of a present-day mystery tied to his time at Camp Pendleton in the 1990s.

NCIS Season 24 will air Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT in fall 2026 on CBS and streaming on Paramount+.
