Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay will lay the foundation stone for Kothari Footwear’s new manufacturing unit in Karur on Friday.

The plant, established with an investment of ₹1,700 crore, is expected to create opportunities for 13,500 people, a statement from Karur’s public relations office read. 

The facility is being built as a joint venture between Evervan Group and Kothari Industrial Corporation to supply footwear for German sportswear giant Adidas.  It is expected to have an annual capacity of 40 million pairs 

This is the first major manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu that the CM will lay the foundation stone for, after his TVK Government came to power in the state. 

The Chief Minister will also distribute welfare assistance and financial aid to beneficiaries under various government schemes during his visit to Karur, the statement added.
