From now until the Oct. 19 referendum in Alberta, the Calgary Herald and Edmonton Journal are publishing your thoughts about the upcoming vote and issues related to separation. Here are some of the latest emails we’ve received.

I am Canadian. I also love Alberta, but if Alberta separated, I’d be moving to a province that is still a part of Canada.

Also, I do not consent to the Alberta government getting their hands on and “managing” my CPP. I did not work my whole life to subsidize the wealthy while I have to visit a soup kitchen for lunch.

I am begging all Albertans, please vote to remain in Canada. I really, truly love this province, and I don’t want to move! We are not American. We’re Canadian, and I want to stay Canadian – Shirley Morgan

I am a Canadian first and love Canada. But, I am frustrated with the Laurentian elite and their arrogance toward Alberta. I am not a separatist and will vote to stay in Canada. However, I understand the separation movement. Things have to change, and not just with words. – Gail Farewell

All in a nutshell, I’m for Alberta’s independence. Alberta needs to chart its own course. The present confederation will never see true electoral reform that it desperately needs. Our country has been hijacked by Bolsheviks and can never be trusted to do the right thing, that is, fix our country. – Joseph Loterzo

I am 100 per cent a Canadian and plan to stay that way. – Alice Lewis

Tell Roger Sports & Media company to reinstate the talk show stations and radio stations (which they cancelled in July, including two in Calgary.) It’s outrageous what they’re doing. It could further aggravate feelings about Canada, especially those in Alberta who are sitting on the fence about separation. – Ron Smith

I believe that Confederation has failed Alberta. While I don’t like the idea of leaving Canada, nothing changes. The government, usually the Liberals, are elected before our votes are counted. We have no say. In Quebec they speak of their “distinct society.” Well, western Canadians have a distinct culture completely different from eastern Canada. While I sadly don’t think enough of my fellow Albertans will vote to force a referendum, I truly hope the numbers are significant enough to force some major changes. If we are successful, I think we would be an amazing country. It’s also odd that nobody tells Quebec that they cannot have a referendum or that they’re traitors. I think that after having no say for 159 years, it’s time for change. – Patrick Wright
