Authorities have identified a 60-year-old man who was beaten to death last week while waiting for a Las Vegas business to open, according to police.

The Metropolitan Police Department received a report at 6:19 a.m. Thursday about an unresponsive man who had just been in a physical altercation in the 900 block of East Sahara Avenue, Metro said in a news release.

Responding officers and medical personnel located the man lying on the ground. He was taken to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, authorities said.

The Clark County coroner’s office on Monday identified the victim as Scott Dennis, 60. His cause and manner of death were still pending, the agency said.

Detectives learned that the victim and a friend were in a line waiting for a business in the area to open.

Police said that a man approached the friend and started yelling at her. The victim, according to authorities, stepped in, and the man hit him in the face, causing him to fall to the ground.

A second man jumped in and the two men continued to beat the victim until the crowd could stop them, police said.

Both suspects fled the area on foot before officers arrived.
