A recently-opened venue is set to reopen its doors after temporarily closing. The former bank building at 20 Smithdown Place, off Penny Lane, opened as twenty on May 16, featuring a coffee shop, wine bar, floristry and small plates concept. The famous building, immortalised in The Beatles' Penny Lane lyrics, was a TSB branch until 2021.

News emerged around Father's Day weekend that the new business was apparently closed. The ECHO has contacted the owners on several occasions since June 23 to ask about the closure.

Founders Laura McCumiskey and Anna Forster opened the doors to twenty on Saturday, May 16 after 12 months of renovation works.

The site had gathered a lot of interest and ahead of the launch, twenty took to social media to invite people to share their memories of the building, which has stood on the South Liverpool high street for more than 90 years.

Speaking ahead of its opening, Laura said: "We wanted to create something that supports other independents as well as our own businesses. A space where quality, experience and community come first."

Now, twenty has shared a statement with the ECHO and says the venue plans to reopen towards the end of the month, with Anna "stepping back".

The statement reads: "Twenty confirms that Anna is stepping back from her operational role to focus on Mary Mary Florals. Laura will continue to lead the day to day management of Twenty.

"Anna’s involvement with twenty has always sat alongside her existing business, Mary Mary Florals, it was always anticipated that the day-to-day operation of the venue would transition as twenty moved beyond launch phase.

"Following a successful launch, twenty used a planned temporary closure for scheduled building works, maintenance, staff training and operational checks to ensure the premises and business are in proper order ahead of the main summer trading period.

"During this planned closure, work also began on the transition of day to-day management of the venue. This process took longer than expected, resulting in the extension of the closure. We sincerely apologise for any frustration and disappointment experienced as a result of this.

"Anna will step down from her board position following completion of agreed arrangements. Twenty would like to thank Anna for her contribution to the launch of the venue, and to thank staff, customers and suppliers for their patience during the closure.

"Twenty is expected to reopen later this month, with a reopening date to be confirmed shortly."
