Like other cultural institutions in France, the Opéra Orchestre Normandie Rouen is facing a drastic cut in government funding.  However, the merger of the Opera and the Orchestra in 2024 had made it possible to create this new institution with funding commitments through 2028, based on a funding agreement among all public partners: the Normandy Region, the State, and the Rouen Normandy Metropolis.

Today, the State has signaled its intention to withdraw from the project, amounting to €334,000. Socialist elected officials from the Rouen Normandy Metropolis have just called on the Minister of Culture and are asking the government “to honor the financial and legal commitments made under the institution’s statutory agreement,” while warning of the consequences of such a withdrawal for culture and local communities. ”
