Malaysian-born Tengku Irfan, 27, has been appointed as Assistant Conductor of the Seattle Symphony. The Malaysian conductor, pianist, and composer will officially start his tenure with the orchestra at the beginning of the 2026/2027 concert season under the leadership of incoming Music Director Xian Zhang.
He is the recipient of the Robert Craft Igor Stravinsky Grant in Orchestral Conducting and the Bayreuth Stipendium Award. He earned his Masters of Music in Orchestral Conducting at The Juilliard School, studying with David Robertson.
