The Associated General Contractors East Tennessee and the City of Chattanooga have partnered to present Builder's Blueprint, a free program that helps experienced people in the trades remove barriers to becoming licensed Tennessee residential contractors and successful business owners.

Officials said, "Many skilled craftsmen have the experience and ability to run their own companies but lack access to the education, resources and financial support needed to become licensed.

Builder's Blueprint is designed to bridge that gap by providing practical business training, industry mentorship, and guidance from experienced construction professionals.

"Participants will learn directly from construction company owners, financial professionals, attorneys, safety experts and other industry leaders while preparing for their Tennessee Residential Contractor License. The program provides comprehensive training in business planning, estimating, project management, financial management, construction law, licensing, blueprint reading, residential building codes, leadership and business development."

Applications for the Fall 2026 program are now open and will be accepted through Aug. 15.  Classes will be held at the Construction Career Center on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5-7 p.m., beginning Sept. 3 and continuing through Dec. 8.  Graduates of the program can receive direct financial assistance to obtain the required residential bond.

Builder's Blueprint is offered at no cost to participants. Enrollment is limited to 12 participants, who will be selected through a competitive application process.

To be eligible, applicants must reside in one of the following Chattanooga ZIP codes: 37404, 37406, 37407 or 37410.
