Anti-ICE protests outside a Newark immigrant detention center have grown increasingly violent after lefty politicians, including NJ Gov. Mikie Sherrill, fanned the flames of far-left “rioters,” who clashed with officers attempting to blockade the front entrance of the facility on the fifth day of demonstrations.

Protesters were filmed Tuesday grappling with officers over plastic barriers they were attempting to use to block a large white truck from leaving Delaney Hall, which has been the scene of chaotic demonstrations since the weekend, according to a new chaotic clip shared by Freedom News TV.

“These rioters have OBSTRUCTED law enforcement operations—a felony and a crime. Local police have refused to answer calls to help our law enforcement,” the Department of Homeland Security said in a statement on X. “We will not allow violent rioters to slow @ICEgov down. Law and order will be restored.”

After the barriers were cleared by detention facility employees, a man in a button-down shirt and jeans stood in front of the exiting truck, arms akimbo, seemingly posing for pictures as several photographers rushed in to document the scene, the footage shows.

He maintained his posture for a few seconds before a jail worker shooed him away so the truck could depart.

The anti-ICE protesters started gathering outside the center — many of them wearing keffiyeh scarves and waving Antifa flags — during the holiday weekend when hundreds of ICE detainees inside reportedly went on a hunger and labor strike, purportedly to protest conditions inside the 1,000-bed facility.

However, DHS chief Markwayne Mullin said there is no ongoing hunger strike at Delaney Hall and that there are “no subprime conditions,” hitting out at “New Jersey sanctuary politicians” who he said demanded access to the facility for “fundraising clicks.”

“Dozens of New Jersey sanctuary politicians chose to spend their Memorial Day weekend smearing ICE law enforcement,” Mullin wrote in a fiery post on X Monday. “They should be thanking our law enforcement for removing these murderers, pedophiles, rapists and drug traffickers from their state.”

He continued, “Would these sanctuary politicians like to house these criminals in their homes or have them as neighbors? We need these sanctuary politicians to stop peddling this garbage and cooperate with us to get these criminals out of their state,” he added in reference to the “worst of the worst” illegal immigrants arrested in New Jersey since the start of the Trump administration’s crackdown.

DHS doubled down against the claims conditions at the facility were substandard Tuesday.

“FACT CHECK: there is NO HUNGER STRIKE at Delaney Hall. There are no subprime conditions,” the department said on X. “ALL detainees are provided with 3 meals a day, clean water, clothing, bedding, showers, soap, toiletries, and opportunities to communicate with their family members and lawyers.

“Aliens are also provided comprehensive healthcare, including medical, dental, and mental health services as available, and access to medical appointments and 24-hour emergency care. For many illegal aliens this is the BEST healthcare they have received their entire lives.”

Though their ranks seem to have thinned Tuesday morning, the demonstrators’ tactics appear to have grown more disruptive and chaotic.

One video shows armed ICE agents wearing helmets and vests facing off with the crowd, including a woman who appeared to be screaming into a bullhorn inches from an agent’s face.

The escalation comes a day after New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill joined protesters outside the facility on Memorial Day in what DHS dismissed as a “political stunt.”

“It is embarrassing that New Jersey sanctuary politicians and anti-ICE rioters chose to spend their Memorial Day weekend smearing ICE law enforcement,” DHS added.

Sherrill was denied access to Delaney Hall Monday after Democratic elected officials from the Garden State, including Sen. Andy Kim, Rep. Rob Menendez and Rep. Nellie Pou toured the facility over the weekend.

Protests outside the detention center erupted shortly after a late Friday vigil organized by families of detainees.
