It is thought the man left the Poverina pub at around 11.40pm before heading onto Ormesby Road

Detectives are appealing for information and witnesses after a man suffered significant injuries in Normanby. The 63-year-old was found shortly before midnight on Saturday, July 11, on Ormesby Road, Normanby, close to Cricket Lane.

It is thought he left the Poverina pub at around 11.40pm before heading onto Ormesby Road. Just 20 minutes later, the man was found with significant injuries to his jaw and was taken to hospital.

Anyone with information or any relevant dash cam footage relating to the incident is urged to contact Cleveland Police. In particular, officers wish to speak to the driver of a silver estate taxi which stopped at the scene.

Detective Constable Steve Emsley from Redcar and Cleveland CID said: "The victim has been spoken to and we have conducted extensive CCTV enquiries in the vicinity of the area but we are still trying to establish the circumstances of the incident. We would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and saw the man walking towards Ormesby, or any other person on the stretch of Ormesby Road between Cricket Lane and the Poverina between 11.40pm and midnight.

"Similarly, we believe a silver estate taxi stopped at the scene and spoke to the victim and we’d be keen to hear from this person as they may have information that could help our investigation."
