Mouse: P.I. for Hire is a hit; it's now been announced by publisher PlaySide that the black-and-white detective adventure has exceeded sales of 1 million units.

Developer Fumi Games celebrated this milestone with a social post, complete with new art:

"From the bottom of our grinning hearts, thank you so much for all of your support," reads the message.

In a press release, it's revealed that sales are split almost exactly 50/50 between PC (Steam) and consoles.

"Mouse: P.I. For Hire reaching over 1 million players has filled the team with an immeasurable amount of gratitude and appreciation for our community," says CEO and Fumi Games founder Mateusz Michalak.

"From what started as a simple concept of a 1930s themed cartoon shooter, the game has reached more players than we could have possibly imagined. Our priority has always been to put players first, and we have worked incredibly hard to continue to achieve that goal, both throughout the game's development and also post-launch. With our recent major update introducing Level Revisit, release of physical editions, and also upcoming Story DLC, we hope that players are excited about all things Mouse: P.I. For Hire. A handcrafted tale born of ink, sweat, and stubborn dreams. From the bottom of our grinning hearts, thank you for supporting us!"

As mentioned in Mechalak's message, the sales milestone coincides with the recent launch of two physical editions of Mouse: P.I. For Hire.

There's a standard edition with just the game (on a disc no less), plus a special Mouseburg edition, which includes the standard edition plus the following extras:

• 3 Mouseburg postcards
• 33 baseball trading cards
• 7" vinyl featuring 4 tracks from the OST
• Double-sided poster
• Comic book, including 2 sticker sheets

Mouse: P.I. For Hire is a first-person shooter combined with a noir detective story and 1930s-era animation, resulting in a game that has both style and substance. Well, we think so in our review, anyway.

It's also been receiving some decent post-launch support, with a recent major update significantly improving the game with lots of quality-of-life changes.
