A 911 caller reported a foul odor coming from the building on Carpenter Avenue near East 228th Street in Wakefield – drawing firefighters and then cops to the five-story rental around 8:30 p.m., according to the NYPD and law enforcement sources.
A putrid odor wafting from a Bronx apartment led authorities to two decomposing corpses so rotten that police couldn’t immediately identify their sexes, cops and sources said.
The “highly decomposed” bodies were found inside a five-story building in Carpenter Avenue near 228th Street in Wakefield after a 911 caller reported a stomach-turning smell oozing in the hallways around 8:30 p.m., according to the NYPD and law enforcement sources.

One of the bodies was found under a couch and other splayed on the floor, sources said.
The two bodies were so decomposed that their ages and genders remained unclear Monday — but there were no other signs of physical trauma to their bodies, according to the sources.
Drug paraphernalia was discovered at the scene, the sources said.
The official cause of death will be determined by the city’s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, cops said.
