A successful season for the Mohawk Trail girls basketball team came to a close on Wednesday. 

After winning just one game in 2022-23 and six games last winter, the Warriors closed out the regular season with an 11-9 record to qualify for the MIAA Div. 5 state tournament for the first time in program history. 

Earning the No. 39 seed, Mohawk Trail traveled to face 26th-seeded Holbrook in the preliminary round on Wednesday but the Warriors were unable to earn a win, as the Bulldogs walked away with a 63-25 victory. 

Holbrook (13-8) advances to face No. 7 Douglas in the Round of 32.

Alpine skiing

The NMH girls and boys swept the final Mt. Institute Ski League race of the season on Wednesday at Berkshire East in Charlemont, winning both races of the giant slalom.

Deerfield Academy took second on both the boys and girls sides.

Elianna Umana Kimura won the girls race in 56.41 seconds, followed by DA’s Rowan Skinner (57.09), NMH’s Ellie Pinkham (58.24), NMH’s Katalin Mazansky (58.49) and DA’s Cecelia Cramer (58.70). Umana Kimura was the season champion, just edging out Skinner.

It was a top four sweep for the Hoggers in the boys race, led by season champion Ryan Choi in first place (55.17 seconds). Teammates Sam Rotermund (second, 55.49), Cody Vassar (third, 56.23) and Zach Wells (fourth, 56.36) rounded out the top four, and DA’s Andrew Lewis nabbed fifth (56.65).

FCHA results

Harper Coffin, Samuel Edson and Jacoby Houle found the back of the net while Andrew Quintana had an assist as FCHA 10U beat Amherst, 3-1, Saturday.
