Maharashtra Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) 2026, which was initially scheduled for Sunday, has been postponed after a raid in Bhiwandi area of Thane district revealed that some individuals possessed several questions similar to the actual question paper, officials told PTI.

"The Council remains firmly committed to conducting the examination with complete transparency. Given the gravity of the situation and the necessity for an in-depth probe, the exam scheduled for June 28, 2026, has been postponed," the Maharashtra State Council of Examination (MSCE) said in a release.

The exam paper breach came to light in the early hours of Saturday when Bhiwandi Police acted on confidential intelligence regarding individuals possessing unauthorised information about the competitive examination papers, as per the Thane district administration

"A raid was promptly conducted at the suspected location. Senior officials from the Maharashtra State Council of Examination were immediately summoned by the police to verify the seized materials. Upon close inspection, it was confirmed that several questions in the possession of the suspects matched the actual question paper drafted for the June 2026 TET," the Thane district administration informed.

The Bhiwandi Police has registered a formal criminal case and a thorough investigation is underway.

The MSCE expressed a zero-tolerance policy toward examination malpractice and stated that the exam postponement was necessary to ensure absolute transparency and to allow law enforcement agencies to conduct an uncompromised, deep-dive investigation into the racket.

The exam council further urged candidates not to rely on rumours and announced that revised dates and updated schedules for the TET 2026 will be published soon on the council's official website.

Opposition says "paper leaks" have become identity of Maharashtra govt

Reacting to the incident, the Opposition alleged that "paper leaks" are no longer isolated incidents but have become the identity of the Maharashtra government.

"Who is giving political protection to the racket that is ruining the hard work, dreams, and future of lakhs of students?" asked state Congress president Harshwardhan Sapkal on Saturday.

He further alleged that "paper leaks" are no longer isolated incidents, but have become the identity of "this failed government".

The Opposition has demanded a fair and impartial probe into the TET paper leak matter and strict action against those responsible.

"Congress will soon launch a protest against those playing with the future of Maharashtra's youth," Sapkal added.
