US needs Israel

President Trump seems to have forgotten that the Israelis helped us start the war against Iran, and they killed dozens of Iranian leaders (“Jet-ban nix riles GOPers, Israel,” July 8).

They have also done a lot more than that and flew thousands of sorties. Now that he may be starting the war back up, will Trump ask Israel to help us find and take out the top Iranian leaders again? Will Israel help us again, since Trump has clearly forgotten how very important Israel’s help was not too long ago?

Council thieves

Rather than giving themselves 18.2% raises and allowing the raise to have a pretense of legitimacy, why not let the City Council members loose in a bank vault of their choosing so they can legally steal as much currency as they can carry (“City pols want to go pay hiking,” July 8)?

It is Mamdani-land, after all, and that’s effectively what they’re doing.

WNBA needs Clark

Great opinion piece by Rich Lowry on WNBA star Caitlin Clark (“WNBA Scorns Its Best,” PostOpinion, July 8).

The league fails to realize that it would suffer immensely without her, as she is a huge box office draw. Opposing players target her in jealousy.

Limit terms now

Sen. Mitch McConnell, who is 84, is making phone calls from his hospital bed to dispel rumors and show that he is not brain-dead (“Mitch back from ‘dead,’ ” July 8).

Let that sink in. I have two words: term limits.

Righting red cards

President Trump’s proactive response of challenging the arbitrary on-field red-card ruling on Folarin Balogun before the United States’ game with Belgium was not soccer blasphemy, it was effective leadership by a president who makes things happen (“Stars & gripes from the left,” Isaac Schorr, July 7).

There are two kinds of people in this world: those who make things happen and those who let things happen. The naysayers are obviously the latter.

Bridge rescue

The rescue operation carried out by NYPD officers to save a woman from taking her own life on the Brooklyn Bridge showed the professionalism, courage and human kindness that defines the character of the officers of this great department (“Finest save woman from atop B’klyn Bridge,” July 10).

The care these officers showed for this troubled soul and the risk they placed themselves in to save her life should make every New Yorker appreciate such great officers who will answer the call of duty and place themselves in harm’s way to protect and assist others.

Rent fairness

If fairness is the goal in housing, when will we figure out that the government picking the winners and losers will never be the right path (“A rent freeze reality check,” July 8)?

How is it fair to tell someone they get to pay many times more than someone in a comparable apartment because the other guy won the loser lottery?

Live where you can afford. Work harder or get roommates if you want a nicer place. Stop asking others to subsidize you and fairness will prevail.
