Announcing the death of a loved one in the local press is a long-standing tradition and we are proud of the trust placed in us to make these important announcements. Every day the ECHO print edition carries tributes and funeral notices for those who have lost a loved one recently and our condolences go out to all.
It gives people a chance to celebrate the lives of loved ones and pay respects to the health and care teams who looked after them. The announcements also often share information regarding funerals, fundraising and flowers.

Arthur Alker
12th July 2026 Peacefully at home aged 79 years. Re-united with his wife Ann. Mum Agnes, Dad Arthur, brothers James and Bernard. Devoted Dad to Shirley, Julie, Peter and Carl. Special Grandad to all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Sisters Betty, Agnes and Ann. Arthur will be greatly missed by all his family and friends. Gerry Arbuthnot
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Gerry Arbuthnot would like us to announce his passing and funeral arrangements. Gerry sadly passed away peacefully at home on the 1st of July 2026 aged 75 with his loving family at his side. Gerry was a devoted husband to Lynn, a loving Dad to Laura and Adam, Father in law to Sooz, a dear Son to Martha and Gerald(deceased), and Brother to Richie and Linda. 1st July 2026 Aged 72 years Dad, I saw you getting weary, a cure was not to be. I put my arms around you and whispered 'come on Dad, come with me'. Reunited with our beautiful Son Michael. Michael passed away peacefully on 26th June 2026, aged 80 years. Reunited with his parents, Francis and Ann. Dearly loved Brother of Francis and Elizabeth. Mary and Carl Gardner
Mary and Carl left us within days of one another, and our hearts are struggling to catch up. Mary was the life and soul of every family gathering - a beautiful lady inside and out - and Carl was the absolute apple of her eye. Their bond was something rare and precious. 20th August 1951. Passed away peacefully on the 1st July 2026. Philip was a much loved Uncle, Brother-in-law and Nephew and will be sadly missed by all his family and friends. 09.08.1949 - 26.06.2026 Peacefully at home aged 76 years. Reunited back into the loving arms of her husband Terry. Loving Mum, Nan, Great Nan, Sister, Aunty and Friend to so many. Anne was the heart of our family, bringing love, laughter and kindness wherever she went. She loved nothing more than her games of pool, darts and spending Sundays at the bingo. Her caring nature touched everyone who knew her. She will be forever loved, deeply missed, and always remembered. Rest peacefully, Mum. You will remain in our hearts forever. She will be sorely missed by all her family and friends. The funeral service will be on Friday 17th July 2026 at 12.30pm in Mount Carmel Church, High Park Street Followed by committal Springwood Crematorium at 1.45pm.
