Sam Rockwell is bringing a new revival of A View from the Bridge to New York.

Rockwell will star as Eddie, alongside Marin Ireland as Beatrice and Alfred Molina as Alfieri in Arthur Miller’s tragic family drama, directed by Neil Pepe. Rockwell is also producing the play, alongside partner Mark Berger, at La MaMa’s Ellen Stewart Theatre.

The 13-week run begins Nov. 27, with an opening night Dec. 13. Bringing a starry commercial production to LaMaMa, an Off-Off-Broadway theater known for experimental work and programming underrepresented artists, is a rare move, but comes due to Rockwell’s connection to the theater, and an effort to bring more attention to the nonprofit theater. 

“Some of my earliest theater memories are of coming to La MaMa as a kid and hanging out backstage while my mom was doing experimental theater of the day. To now return to the Ellen Stewart Theatre with Arthur Miller’s masterpiece with these remarkable collaborators feels like coming full circle. I started my own career downtown, and institutions like La MaMa have always inspired me—as an artist and as an audience member. They’re the lifeblood of our culture, championing bold new voices and reminding us why the theater matters. I’ve always considered myself incredibly lucky, and this opportunity feels like kismet,” Rockwell said. 

A View from the Bridge premiered Off-Broadway in 1965 at the Sheridan Square Playhouse starring  Robert Duvall and Jon Voight, with direction by Ulu Grosbard and assistant direction by Dustin Hoffman. It has since appeared on Broadway and the West End several times, with the most recent Broadway revival in 2015, directed by Ivo van Hove.

The play follows Eddie Carbone, a longshoreman living in Brooklyn with his wife Beatrice, whose unhealthy obsession with her teenage niece, Catherine, leads the larger family into ruin. Alfieri, a lawyer, narrates his downfall. 

Rockwell returns to the stage after last appearing in American Buffalo on Broadway in 2022, which was directed by Pepe.

The creative team for A View from the Bridge will include scenic design by Scott Pask, costume design by Sarah Laux, lighting design by John Torres and sound design by Palmer Hefferan.
