Square Enix is ramping up promotion for Final Fantasy Resonance, which will see its release across multiple platforms on October 22 this year. Along with a new trailer and Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 pre-orders, the company shared with us some new details on a game that promises to push the limits of pixel art.
Final Fantasy Resonance builds upon a tale of crystals using the on-going HD-2D style Square Enix has cultivated these last years. Combined with a gameplay system that evokes the Final Fantasys of old, there's a lot here including chocobos, airships, and of course a turn-based battle system.
The world of Final Fantasy Resonance includes several cities, each of which have their own unique landscape and architecture.
Final Fantasy Resonance features a colorful cast of main characters including an airship engineer named Lid; Nichol, who is a strategist for the Olderion Federation; along with Veritas of the Heavens and Waters who both seek to destroy the world's crystals.
What makes Final Fantasy Resonance unique is a system known as Visions. These are crystalized essences of legendary heroes from other Final Fantasy games such as Cecil, Bartz, Squall, Zidane, and Tidus. They can be equipped and fight alongside the player in battle.
Another aspect is the espers, which can be recruited through the course of the story. During battle they can join for three turns before unleashing their ultimate attack.
Other than that, Final Fantasy Resonance offers up its own version of collectables and minigames, and there's even a Colosseum to pass the time between major battles. Square Enix has shared a further look at what to expect in an all new trailer, which can be viewed below.
