Devolver Digital's indie hit, Cult of the Lamb, is getting a board game adaptation. This board game adaptation about building your own diabolical cult aims to bring the comedic and sly style of game source material and bring its visual style to gaming tables.
The Cult of the Lamb Board Game AnnouncementThe Cult of the Lamb board game is a four-player competitive experience. Each player becomes the prophet of their own cult: Lamb, Goat, Owl, or Snake, and race to see who can create the most devoted cult of worshippers. To that end, players will take turns doing dungeon crawls and worker placement gameplay, striking down monsters in crusades and putting their cult members to work spreading the good word of...yourself.
At the game's fourth round, players can choose to face The One Who Waits in a final showdown or they can skip to tallying up everyone's victory points. These points are gathered by completing crusades, completing quests, expanding your cult, and demonstrating overall faith of your followers.
Each decision made in the game will feed into different scoring paths, allowing for deep replayability and a balance between the quick dice rolls of crusade combat and the satisfying engine-building of a worker placement experience.
Lastly, the Cult of the Lamb board game will contain painted miniatures depicting characters from the Cult of the Lamb videogame. This will include standees of various prophets, cult worshipping meeples, and stylized depictions of the game's major boss characters.
The Cult of the Lamb videogame was published in June, 2022 by Devolver Digital. It became a critical and commercial success thanks to its blend of adorable, expressive art direction juxtaposed with dark demonic imagery and subject matter. This is expected of the studio behind unhinged but engaging entries like My Friend, Pedro and Baby Steps, but Cult of the Lamb stood out thanks to its deeply rewarding gameplay loop.
The Cult of the Lamb board game will be brought to life soon via a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter.
