As a long-time hospital financial consultant and turnaround CFO who was recruited in 1988 to be the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Memorial Hospital, I have been observing the drama unfolding during recent times of what is now Common Spirit Memorial Healthcare. The most recent of that being the termination of Diagnostic Radiology and outsourcing those services to an India based group via teleradiology. For those who might not know, Diagnostic Radiology is the MD physician group responsible for interpreting radiology exams.
In my opinion, that represents many shortcomings for both facility patients and physicians. Many such delays have already been disclosed by the facility with statements regarding software issues, etc. Additionally, I can't comprehend attending physicians and surgeons being comfortable with such when they cannot have immediate face-to-face or telephone conversations with the professional radiologist interpreting the outcomes when necessary.
The possible rationale for the contract termination becomes more intriguing from the following:
An IRS requirement is that the tax returns of tax-exempt organizations are available for public review. (Yes they have to file Form 990) There is a financial tax exempt research organization now named Candid, which used to be Guidestar, which accesses those returns and makes them available on their website.
For the fiscal year ended June 30, 2025, Common Spirit Memorial lost over $38,000,000. The CEO of its parent, Common Spirit received over $22,000,000 in compensation for its fiscal year ended in 2024.
As an old long-term healthcare CFO, again it would be my opinion that more drastic cuts might be currently considered. Kind of scary, in my opinion, as my PCP is Memorial related.

I thank Ron Peterson and all the others who are exposing the serious flaws in the formerly wonderful Memorial Hospital, for the gross incompetence of the management at Common Spirit.
Allowing them to continue to operate a major health care facility is bordering on criminal. Whoever oversees Common Spirit needs to step up and halt their continued negligence.
