With their product range now featuring numerous processors across two distinct line-ups, the M-Series and T-Series, Techivation have recently set about updating and improving some of their earlier releases. The latest plug-in to see a second major version is the company’s M-Series compressor, which delivers some handy enhancements that include an all-new intelligent Mix Assistant function. 

M-Compressor 2 retains all of the features that made the original popular, combining both upward and downward compression with gating and offering independent Up, Down and Gate thresholds: signals above the Down threshold are attenuated in the same way a typical downward compressor works, signals sitting between the Up and Gate thresholds are boosted, and anything below the Gate threshold is turned down. 

The plug-in is a spectral compressor, meaning that it’s capable of applying different amounts of compression to different frequency ranges without the carrying out the band-splitting employed by multi-band processors. Users can adjust the spectral parameters manually, or engage a new Shaping control that continually analyses the incoming signal and adjusts the compression to avoid ‘muddy’ or ‘harsh’ sounds. 

A headline feature of the new version is its Mix Assistant tool, which combines all of the plug-in parameters to a single control. After analysing the incoming audio, M-Compressor 2 will generate 12 sets of compression settings tailored to the user’s track. Users can then select four of the options and blend seamlessly between them, offering an intuitive way to arrive at the desired compression character.

M-Compressor 2 is supported on PCs running Windows 7 or higher, and Macs running macOS 10.15 and above. VST, VST3, AU and AAX plug-in versions are available.

M-Compressor 2 is available now, and is being offered at an introductory price of $55 until 20 July 2026, when it will increase to $149.
