U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville is continuing to speak out against a bipartisan bill from Sens. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Maria Cantwell (D-WA) which is headed to the Senate floor after passing the Senate Commerce Committee 19-9 last week.

Tuberville is aligned with both the SEC and Big 10, who came out with a joint statement against the bill which expressed concerns about certain elements, some of which Tuberville has outlined during a radio appearance with Mark Mitchell on ‘On the Mark.’

Calling the bill — which is known as the Protect College Sports Act — “Obamacare 2.0”, Tuberville spoke out against the aspect that the federal government would have too much control over how universities operate.

“It’s a disaster,” Tuberville said. “Ted Cruz and a Democrat came up with a bill that basically puts federal government in charge of college sports. We can’t do anything right up here, and basically it would be just like Obamacare — a disaster.

“It basically puts the federal government in charge of college sports,” Tuberville said, calling it a disaster and comparing it to Obamacare. “Ted Cruz let the Democrats put a bunch of stuff in there that will pretty much put the Big 10 and SEC in harm’s way. It’s a slap in the face to a lot of us that really love college sports in the South…I’m fighting it.

“I’m not going to allow this thing just to go through without people really understanding what’s in it.”

Tuberville, who is running for Governor of Alabama, has his own NIL proposal limiting athletes to a single transfer without waivers. He said he intends to place a hold on the Cruz bill to slow its path to the floor, but he did express real concerns that the PCSA may pass in the Senate and head to the House.
