A beloved Stockport restaurant has made the devastating announcement that it will shut its doors, citing rental costs as the reason for the closure.

Located on Shaw Road, Pokusevskis has been an institution in Stockport, opening its doors in 2004. The tiny delicatessen grew into a restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating.

The restaurant brought together food from across the world as well as from local markets. The vegan-friendly restaurant also specialised in brunch with coffee and cakes on offer throughout the day and was a popular place to go for drinks later on at night.

In a statement seen by the M.E.N Carole Barton claimed that she had been left with just 14 days to pay more than £10,000 in order to keep the restaurant open.

The restaurant sadly joins a long list of ever-increasing spots in Greater Manchester which have been forced to close due to the increasing costs of running a restaurant.

In a post on Facebook, Carole Barton wrote: “It is with great sadness that we at Pokusevskis will have to say goodbye to our friends and customers."

The statement added: "I have lived on the moor on and off [for] 40 years, but I [have] to declare I’ve been defeated. My only concern is to pay my loyal staff and my great suppliers. Thank you all for kind words. God Bless”

Fans of the restaurant rushed to the comments sending well wishes. One read, "so sorry to hear this for you and your staff", while another said "so sorry to hear love, bigger things for you now."
