They had the nerve to cancel our sweet + petite ankle socks.
Now, they're coming for one of the most basic phrases in the English language: "Let me Google it."
According to the New York Times, saying "let me Google it" makes you sound old. Kids these days are saying "search it up" instead.
According to a report by the NYT, "They may still be using Google, but they’re not 'Googling it.' Instead they’re saying 'search it up,' as in: Who is that Norwegian soccer player with the long blond hair? Search it up. The 'it' is dropped if you have a direct object, as when you 'search up Erling Haaland.'"
A post about it going viral on Threads with some interesting responses.
Parents in the comments were quick to confirm that this is, sadly, 100% true.
"Both my kids tell me to search up things," one person commented.
Another person replied similiarly, "Omg my 10 year old says this and I hate it!! Had no idea this was a 'thing' 🤦♀️"
It's really, truly a thing: "My 11 year old says 'search it up' and I always reply 'you mean LOOK it up?!'"
Unsurprisingly, Millennials in the replies are not taking the news well.
"Search It Up sounds like a Disney Channel Original Movie," one person commented.
We have another person saying, "Search it up sounds like what my boomer mom would say."
A simple, "That just sounds stupid."
And finally, an actual good suggestion: "What about 'give it a goog.'"
