Martha Stewart says Andy Cohen wanted to cast her for ‘Housewives.' Why she said no

Martha Stewart has no interest in joining “The Real Housewives of New York,” despite Andy Cohen’s alleged entreaties.
In a new conversation with Jenna Bush Hager and Sheinelle Jones, Martha Stewart revealed that Cohen was indeed hoping that she’d join the Bravo show.
“You know that Andy Cohen’s ultimate housewife would be you,” Jenna said.
“Oh, of course. He wanted me,” Stewart responded.
Ultimately, Stewart turned down the offer for one very important reason.
“I’m not a housewife anymore,” she explained. “I’m a homemaker.”
“Let’s go,” Jenna said, enthusiastically supporting the lifestyle guru.
“I am, and that’s what I want to be: a homemaker,” Stewart said.
Even though Stewart won’t be appearing as a regular cast member in the latest season of “The Real Housewives of New York City” when it premieres on Sept. 8, someone very close to her will be.
Daisy Toye, Stewart’s longtime makeup artist, is joining the cast of the Bravo series for Season 16.
In a new trailer for the season, Stewart can be seen walking through Toye’s kitchen and saying, “What do you have in this kitchen? Store-bought pie? Oh, come on. There’s so much to do in here.”
While appearing on TODAY with Jenna & Sheinelle, Stewart shared the one piece of advice she offered her makeup artist before she started filming the reality series.
“I told her to be nice, and she’s the worst. She’s so bad,” the 84-year-old said.
Stewart has been working with Toye for 15 years and has watched her build a life and career. While reflecting on her friend’s new reality TV venture, Stewart gushed about Toye but shared some words of caution.
“She’s married to the nicest man and has the nicest child. And I just hope that she doesn’t get spoiled being a housewife,” she said with a grin.
Before the cast of “The Real Housewives of New York City” Season 16 was announced in March, Stewart was rumored to be in talks to join. In August 2025, Page Six reported that Bravo was interested in casting Stewart. However, her representative Susan Magrino said, “Not Martha.”
“She says she is not a ‘Housewife,’” Magrino added.
