Ollie Watkins update

Manchester United could land another blow to Champions League rivals Aston Villa this summer by making a move for striker Ollie Watkins, reports Matty Hewitt.

The Europa League champions have already rejected an approach from Turkish club Fenerbahce. The Turkish outfit were said to be preparing a £35million offer for the England international, but Villa made it clear they would not entertain the bid.

According to The Sun, several clubs across England and Europe are keen on securing Watkins' signature this summer.

Fenerbahce had hoped to tempt the 30-year-old with a three-year contract worth between £7.5million and £8.5million annually.

The Daily Mail have reported that United have joined the race to sign Adams on a permanent deal from Bournemouth, with the United States international thought to be valued at around £35million.

However, a subsequent report from talkSPORT has claimed that Bournemouth have made it clear that Adams is not for sale and would not be available for £35million even if they were to sanction a transfer.

Michael Carrick delighted

Michael Carrick praised Manchester United's young guns for expressing themselves on the pitch after they turned on the style to beat Rosenborg 5-0 in a pre-season friendly in Norway reports Tyrone Marshall.

Carrick again started with a strong side in Trondheim, but introduced two youngsters at the break in full-backs Jaydan Kamason and Harry Amass. Kamason laid on two assists, while Amass registered an assist and a goal.

Eight more youngsters followed on the hour mark, with Fletcher twins Jack and Tyler catching the eye in midfield. Jacob Devaney again came on at centre-back and netted from a corner, while winger Ethan Williams rounded off the scoring.

The youngsters had looked good in the second half against Wrexham last week without finding a goal, but they were ruthless against Rosenborg and played some excellent football..

De Gea sends Garnacho message

David de Gea has wished Alejandro Garnacho all the best after joining Aston Villa on a season-long loan from Chelsea, reports Matthew Abbott.

There is an obligation for the transfer to become permanent next summer, should certain criteria be met.

Manchester United retain a 10% sell-on clause from their £40million deal to sell the Argentina international less than 12 months ago.

Man Utd confirm transfer

Manchester United have confirmed young prospect Sekou Kone has left the club to join Lausanne-Sport on loan. Kone, 20, has been with the Reds since the summer of 2024, when United purchased him from Malian side Guidars FC for £1million.

Kone did actually spend half of last season on loan with the Swiss Super League team.

He linked up with the INEOS owned club in the January transfer window, where he featured in five league games.

Garnacho makes Man Utd admission

Alejandro Garnacho hopes to rediscover his Manchester United form at Aston Villa after the winger agreed to leave Chelsea on loan, reports Jack Flintham.

The 22-year-old left Old Trafford under a cloud last summer after off-the-pitch issues forced the club to cut ties.

Garnacho was criticised for posting a picture of himself in a Villa shirt with Marcus Rashford's name on the back online, while he also criticised the team and Ruben Amorim after the Europa League final defeat to Tottenham. Chelsea approached United with a £40m offer and the Reds were happy to accept.

Two £40m midfield summer transfer targets on United's radar

United have Eduardo Camavinga and Sander Berge on their radar, according to The Guardian.

Real Madrid would reportedly consider offers of over £40million for the France international. It is said that he seems to favour staying in the Spanish capital, but Madrid could look to sell this summer as they attempt to sign Rodri from Manchester City.

Berge would apparently cost around the same amount. However, his Premier League experience is noted compared to Camavinga, who has never previously played outside of France or Spain.

The publication also acknowledges that United's list of midfield targets also includes Alex Scott and Manu Kone.

United could 'cut their loses' with World Cup star this summer

United's former chief scout Mick Brown believes Lisandro Martinez could leave the club this summer.

Brown told Football Insider:

Man United will not rule out selling Martinez because of these injury issues. He's still very highly regarded, and I believe the plan has been for him to partner Harry Maguire in the defence, but after this latest injury, that plan might have to change. But none of that is any good if he's always sat in the stands with an injury, so if there's any indication these issues are going to keep coming up, I expect they'll look to cut their losses.

United reminded that they still await very important decision

Mikael Silvestre is adamant that it remains very important that Bruno Fernandes stays at United if the could are to continue progressing this coming season.

Silvestre has told GOAL:

He's a key player, and I was happy that he decided not to go to Saudi Arabia and stay with United, stick with the club in a difficult moment in the transition. He's been here for a number of years, but despite the adversity, he delivered, and he was the best player in the league last season, so it's very important that he stays and continues to help the team progress.

Manu Kone holding out hope for PSG call amid United interest

Manu Kone is keen on a move to the Premier League, according to Il Tempo. It is said to be a league that particularly fascinates the France international. Kone, however, reportedly continues to hope that Paris Saint-Germain come calling this summer.

They have yet to show any serious interest in the midfielder, though, with United remaining the frontrunners. No offer is forthcoming from Old Trafford at this stage, with Roma wanting over £40million to consider selling, as they could do with a significant sale to improve their financial situation by banking a cash influx and funding their summer transfer business.

Summerville transfer truth emerging after Al-Hilal make move

United never took any decisive action regarding Crysencio Summerville, according to Tuttomercato.

The club are only said to have monitored Summerville this summer and nothing more. That is reportedly why the Netherlands international so swiftly signed for Al-Hilal after they made a move for him.

Roma were also credited with an interest in the West Ham United player before his switch to Saudi Arabia. United were always likely to be blown out of the water by any interest from the Middle East, having already shown this summer that they will not be drawn into bidding wars, like with Summerville's former team-mate Mateus Fernandes.

United 'weighing up' transfer for England star after World Cup

United are weighing up a move for Djed Spence, according to Football Insider.

Everton are also credited with an interest in the England international, and reportedly want to accelerate their talks with Spurs. Spence is said to be open to making a move this summer if guarantees about gametime are not there from Roberto De Zerbi.

There is apparently a £40million price tag on his head. Serie A sides, including Inter, are linked with the versatile full-back, but it remains to be seen whether any clubs in Italy would be able to afford spending that amount on Spence this summer.

Bruno Fernandes 'makes future decision' as announcement imminent

Bruno Fernandes is expected to commit his future to United before the end of this month, according to the Express.

It is said that the club captain has decided to pledge his future this summer. Talks on a new and improved contract are reportedly taking place, but have yet to result in any agreement.

Saudi Pro League clubs have previously tried to sign the Portugal international and teams in Turkey have shown interest this summer. However, it appears that Fernandes will be staying put and is due to start pre-season training with the rest of his United team-mates next week.

Chelsea finalising £52m transfer for player United admired

Chelsea are finalising the £52million signing of Maxence Lacroix, according to The Athletic.

United were said to be among the Crystal Palace player's admirers earlier this summer, with Arsenal another club who were credited with an interest in Lacroix. He reportedly has a medical scheduled for today in London, with a six-year contract to join Chelsea due to be signed afterwards.

Lacroix has three years left on his deal with Palace, but talks over an extension apparently stalled earlier this year. As such, they are cashing in on the France international now that he is back from the World Cup.

Unai Emery to try again with Alejandro Garnacho after Jadon Sancho didn't work

Gabriel Agbonlahor suggests Unai Emery sees something in Alejandro Garnacho and will try to get the best out of him after failing to do so with Jadon Sancho.

Agbonlahor said on talkSPORT Breakfast:

If there's ever a manager who can get extra out of a player, it's Unai Emery. Last season, he tried with [Jadon] Sancho, it didn't work, he'll try again with Garnacho. We hear reports that he's been interested in him for a couple of years; maybe he sees something in Garnacho that I don't. But our manager is a genius, so I'll have to trust what he does.

No surprise Hall is on the mind

United currently have a full quota of left wingers, should Rashford stay of course. Cunha and Dorgu can also play that position but left-back looks to be more of an issue. Shaw did excellently last season but he is not getting any younger. Dorgu can play there, but many will agree he looks better in an advanced role. Hall would be a tremendous signing for United but having already lost Gordon, Newcastle will put up a fight to keep him.

United transfer target 'keeps being spoken about' at the club

United's former chief scout Mick Brown claims Lewis Hall is still being discussed at the club.

Brown told Football Insider:

Lewis Hall is somebody who keeps being spoken about at Man United. It looks like they want to start work on improving other areas of the team, of course we've spoken about the midfield, but they are now ready to look at other targets.Hall is somebody who Michael Carrick is a big fan of. He had an excellent season for Newcastle and is probably one of the best in the league in his position, so when we're talking about Man United signing a left-back, he is probably the outstanding candidate for that position.

United enquiry for ex-England under-21 international revealed

United are one of several Premier League clubs who have enquired with Bologna about Jonathan Rowe, according to TEAMtalk.

Aston Villa, Chelsea, Everton and Newcastle United are also reported to be interested in the former England under-21 international. However, it is former United manager David Moyes who is said to be a huge admirer of the 23-year-old.

Everton have reportedly discussed what it would take to sign the former Norwich City player this summer. Rowe scored eight goals across all competitions from out wide last season, which is his best return since leaving the Canaries for Marseille two years ago.

United again linked with in-demand Serie A defender this summer

United are again credited with an interest in Jhon Lucumi by Corriere dello Sport.

Besiktas are also said to be in for the Bologna player, reportedly offering £10million plus their midfielder Jean Onana, who has spent the last season-and-a-half on loan in Serie A at Genoa. However, it appears that Lucumi's employers are not willing to go along with that arrangement.

They appear to want £21million for the Colombia international now that a £34million release clause is seemingly no longer active. However, the left-footed central defender is in the final year of his contract, so that price could continue to drop this summer.

Alejandro Garnacho makes United admission in Villa interview

Alejandro Garnacho has acknowledged that he is still trying to return to the player he was after first breaking through at United.

Garnacho told Villa TV:

I was looking for a club to get confidence at and to try to be the player I was in my first years at Manchester United. I spoke with the manager, and I think he will give me the confidence to be here and to help the team.

He continued to highlight the impact of Emery, adding:

I spoke with Unai before I came here, and he gave me confidence. That’s why I’m here.

New suitor emerges for Jadon Sancho after United summer exit

Atletico Madrid are competing with Borussia Dortmund to sign Jadon Sancho, according to BILD.

The Spanish side are said to be monitoring the situation closely, with Sancho on their list of targets to strengthen their attack. As for Dortmund, they have reportedly not ruled out re-signing the winger, but it appears that they will not do so until the end of this summer's transfer window.

Sancho would have to take a significant wage cut to join the Bundesliga club, with suggestions that their contract offer would be heavily incentivised. The former England international is said to be very open to returning.

Alex Scott's team-mate re-emerging as United transfer target

United have reignited their long-standing interest in Tyler Adams, according to the Daily Mail.

Adams is said to be on their list of targets and could be available for £35million. Adding the Bournemouth player at that price will take the total cost of their midfield overhaul this summer to £110million.

The Cherries appear more willing to part with Adams than his midfield partner, Alex Scott. He has yet to sign a new contract since arriving from Leeds United three years ago, so the American has just 24 months left on his current deal, which could force Bournemouth's hand this window.

United add Nottingham Forest flop to summer transfer shortlist

United are considering a move for one-time Nottingham Forest midfielder Danilo, according to the BBC.

They are said to have added the Brazil international to their shortlist of transfer targets. Newcastle United are also credited with an interest. Botafogo are also already receiving bids for the midfielder. Palmeiras and Zenit St Petersburg have reportedly offered around £25million to sign Danilo this summer.

He made 62 appearances across all competitions during three seasons at Forest, the last of which he began by breaking his leg on the opening weekend of the Premier League season. However, he now appears back to his best.

Alex Scott talks

Chelsea are reportedly accelerating their pursuit of United-linked Bournemouth star Alex Scott in order to beat off competition for his signature.

Scott impressed for the Cherries last season and has also gathered interest from Arsenal. Having already forked out £117million on Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa, the Blues want to make another major signing from a Premier League rival.

And according to The Standard, the West Londoners are now speeding up talks as they look to secure the midfielder's signature ahead of the pack. Chelsea are said to have had a £64million bid turned down by Bournemouth, but the England international is believed to be keen on the move.

Sarr enquiry claim

United have made an enquiry for Crystal Palace winger Ismaila Sarr, according to reports in France. The Senegal international is admired at Old Trafford as United continue assessing options to strengthen out wide.

Sarr enjoyed the best season of his career last term and also impressed during the World Cup with Senegal. He is not considered United's priority target, but he remains firmly on the club's shortlist.

Opinion: How United have stolen a march on their rivals

With the growth of the transfer market for the best players in the Premier League showing no signs of slowing, the battle to sign the best of the next generation has never been more important.

This is an area where Manchester United have become more proactive recently and while they are again looking to sign some outstanding 16-year-olds this summer, it is an age group higher where they have started to see success.

Perhaps the key deal here is the £1.5million spent to sign Ayden Heaven, then 18, from Arsenal at the end of the January 2025 window. Heaven couldn't see a pathway to the Gunners' first team, but was given the star treatment on visits to Old Trafford and a clear route to opportunities was laid out in front of him.

United transfer state of play

Manchester United are in no rush to complete a third midfield signing of the summer and are set to take their time to assess the market before making a move for anyone.

As the MEN previously revealed in Notebook, United are working off a long list of potential midfield signings this summer after crunching the numbers on players across the continent.

There is a feeling that the pressure is off after completing deals for Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans from Chelsea and Aston Villa for a combined £85million.
