I can't remember the details in that conversation. I could have a look at it but Adobe recommends to use Denoise AI before applying Adaptive Color. That is what I do. Things have really changed since Adobe enabled the Neural Engine (NE). Denoise AI only takes a 32mp file 13 seconds on my system.

There is also Raw Details which applies automatically when you run Denoise AI. In the past when Denoise AI took near 40 seconds I would not use of all of the time. If I didn't run Denoise AI, I would apply Raw Details.

Johan stated that running Denoise AI for everything would really increase the catalogue size. As a hobby shooter I'm only editing a handful of files per outing. Running Denoise AI at low ISO does not bother me as the file benefits from Raw Details which I would have applied anyway. I just tone down the Denoise slider.

Also exposure makes a big difference. A good exposure with e high ISO can look cleaner than an underexposed low ISO file. Also I shoot a lot of wildlife with a slower lens so I'm usually much higher than ISO 200. I get those ISO's when shooting urban, landscapes, etc which I have not doe yet since NE was enabled.

I find that using the adaptive profile with a bit of manual noise reduction works great. I’m sure it varies per camera, but that’s what I would advise everyone to try first. AI Denoise isn’t really needed for this.

Ever since Denoise AI came out I have kinda forgotten about manual NR. I'll have to keep that in mind.

The photos edited last year worked ok regardless of applying Adaptive profiles before A1 denoise. Now when I view them in my iPad, it require me the recompute. Is the current version of Lr is more restrictive in the order of application?

Recompute is a new correction to the old version. When applying AI processes , there are dependent upon the order that are applied,]. It was recognised that. adding AI functions out of the recommended order required that ALL of the AI process be recomputed in the correct order. This was an update added in v15.x to correct the handling of AI processes in older versions.

If you attempt to export photos edited last year there is a good chance the you will get a warning to recompute before you export.

I wonder going forward, are we going to revisit photos taken with the current version?
I normally use my LrM to view and create JPEGs etc. It’s more convenient to sit in the sofa and do these tasks. Also I had LrM longer than the `LrC, so used to it.

As Lightroom has introduced new feaures I have revisited most of my better older photos. AI has really made it worth while When Adobe intorduced NR as a separate derivative DNG, I had a lot of derivatives created. Then when the DNG intermediate was eliminated, I went back and reporcesse every image that had a derivative with the name "xxx Enhanced NR.DNG" just oto eliminate the derivative images.

They do work. Adobe recommends it to avoid unexpected results which happened to me once. Then I read about it and at least had an answer as to why. I made my own short list and it was easy to teak my workflow.

The reason for the lrcat-data increase in size. It’s kinda like it’s own RAW file. When you initially run it takes a bit of time and it defaults to 50. You can go back to it at any time and adjust slider from 0 to 100 as many times as you like. The results are instant. So it stores all of the possible adjustments during the first run.

I don't think that is correct. I understand it this way. For any given AI process on an image there is a pixel adjustment value. The image pixel has by default 50% of that value applied in the generated preview. By moving the slider, all you are doing is varying the amount of that value that is being applied.

Yes, they were new images so they were stored in the same folder as the original image and imported into the catalog as a new photo.

I think that is correct. If the .lrcat-data would store all the 101 possibilities, it would grow to immense proportions with just a handful of denoised images.

My current approach, try manual noise reduction first.
Maybe it's my subject matter, I'm working with tropical skies and bonkers blue water colours, the RAWs are really dull, and to be fair overexposed, I'm trying to get closer to the colours I see in the JPEGS from the phone. Some of the sliders being moved a little is having a big impact on color, I'm finding that updating the AI edit status can swing the look quite a way also.
Presumably Adaptive Color is adding contrast to noise, I like the overall look but not then noise. If I AI Denoise that takes away the noise but now if I re-order, the noise is no longer there for Adaptive Color to do its thing and I lose the overall look in those areas.

I’m not sure I understand what you’re saying. What do you mean with “if I re-order”?

simply causes the AI processes to be regenerated in the necessary sequence and not the order they are applied. This indicator is there because AI processes can affect each other and Adobe has determined the best sequence to apply these.

An example might be to apply spot removal and then applying Denoise. . The Areas affected by the spot removal are quite noticeable until the AI Edit status is re run.

You cannot change the order that edits are applied except for the AI processes as mentioned above. Adobe will apply the edits in the same order that they have determined best for all images. It is not clear to be what the order is that Adobe uses. It does not matter if i apply edits from top to bottom or bottom to top of the Develop panel or randomly, as the result will always be the same.

I'm assuming that AI Denoise affects the de-mosaic result and would be first. When I update the AI Edit status, I'm assuming that the Adaptive Profile is re-computed on the de-mosaic, hence re-order.
Can't remember exactly where I saw it but there is a list of the order Lightroom carries out its edits.

Here is my shortlist of tools I use most often. First two steps became easy to remember. After I run Denoise the Remove Tool Icon because a visual prompt. Do I need to use anything in there? If not I move on. Since lens corrections are automatically applied at import I cheat and just leave them on, I have not seen the orange warning icon illuminate if I do the other steps in order.
