Downtown Hilo will come alive this Saturday as the 29th annual KWXX Ho‘olaule‘a brings the community together for one of Hawaii Island’s most anticipated cultural celebrations.
The free, family-friendly event runs from 4:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. and features four stages of continuous live music, performances by more than 20 Hawaii artists, and more than 40 local food and craft vendors.
This year’s KWXX Ho‘olaule‘a lineup features many standout moments and brings together some of the biggest names in island and Hawaiian music, according to a KWXX press release.
Among the highlights is the first-ever KWXX Ho}olaule‘a performance by High Watah, a long-anticipated debut for fans across the island.
Also returning to the KWXX Ho}olaule‘a stage for the first time since 2006 is legendary duo Ho‘onu‘a, reuniting with the event alongside many of Hawaii’s most respected and beloved musicians.
“This event has always been about community, connection, and celebrating the music that brings us together,” Chris Leonard, producer of the KWXX Ho}olaule‘a and president and general manager of New West Broadcasting Corp., said in the press release. “Welcoming High Watah to the KWXX Ho}olaule‘a stage for the first time, bringing Ho‘onu‘a back after nearly two decades, and being joined by so many of our island’s talented artists, means a great deal to us. We’re excited to share another unforgettable night with Hilo and our island ‘ohana.”
With nearly three decades of tradition, the KWXX Ho}olaule‘a remains Hawaii Island’s largest single-day music festival, drawing residents and visitors alike to downtown Hilo for an evening of local music, food, culture, and connection.
