The UKHSA has named seven areas of the UK as being under new heat-health alerts. The weather warnings come into place as temperatures start to increase this week after an "unsettled" period.

Large parts of the UK experienced some wet, milder weather over the weekend. But this is all about to change, as heat alerts have been issued from Wednesday, July 29.

Three areas have been put under a yellow heat alert, including Yorkshire and The Humber, West Midlands and the South West.

According to the government body, a yellow alert means "minor impacts are likely" across health and social care services due to the heat.

It also says there is a greater risk to life of vulnerable people, an increased potential for indoor environments to become very warm and water‑related incidents may increase, including risks from cold‑water shock and drowning.

An amber alert has also been issued for four regions: East Midlands, London, East of England and South East. An amber is slightly more serious than yellow, stating "significant impacts are likely".

It warned of a possible rise in deaths due to high temperatures, as well as impacts on younger age groups.

There is likely to be an increased demand on all health and social care services in areas under an amber alert, as well as the heat affecting the ability of some workforces to deliver their services.

All alerts come into place on Wednesday July 29 at 9am and last until Thursday, July 30 at 9am.

A post on social media announced the heat alerts, which said: "An Amber Heat-Health Alert has been issued across the East Midlands, East of England, London and South East, with a Yellow Heat-Health Alert in place across Yorkshire, the West Midlands and the South West.

"These alerts will be in from 9am Wednesday 29 July until Thursday 30 July at 9am. Read our blog post on 'how to keep cool and stay well during hot weather' at ukhsa.blog.gov.uk."

It isn't the first time heat alerts have been in place, as red warnings for extreme heat were issued in some parts of the UK in June, which are very rare.
