• Base Salary $112,628 - $122,702 (HEO7) + 17% superannuation

About the opportunity

The Safer Communities Case Officer plays a vital role in supporting a safe, respectful and inclusive university community. This position provides trauma informed, person centred support to students, staff, former students, former staff members, and visitors who are impacted by gender based violence, sexual harm, domestic and family violence, bullying and harassment, and issues relating to modern slavery.

Key responsibilities

Reporting to the Safer Communities Team Lead, you will:

• provide trauma informed case management and support to individuals who disclose experiences of harm
• conduct risk assessments and develop safety, wellbeing and support plans
• offer advice and guidance on reporting options, support pathways and University processes
• facilitate referrals to appropriate internal services and external specialist agencies
• work within relevant legislative, policy and safeguarding frameworks using a stepped care approach
• liaise and collaborate with University colleagues and external providers, including health, mental health, statutory and community services
• contribute to preventative education initiatives, awareness raising activities, and promotion of the Safer Communities Office
• maintain accurate, confidential records and contribute to service improvement and reporting as required.

About you

You are a supportive and capable professional with experience working with people affected by trauma and complex wellbeing or safety concerns. You bring sound judgement, empathy, and the ability to work collaboratively in sensitive and complex situations. You will have:

• demonstrated experience providing trauma informed support or case management
• strong understanding of gender based violence, sexual harm, domestic and family violence, and related issues
• experience conducting risk assessments and safety planning
• excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage sensitively with diverse communities
• knowledge of relevant legislation, ethical practice, and confidentiality requirements
• ability to work collaboratively with internal stakeholders and external service providers
• relevant qualifications in social work, psychology, counselling, community services or a related field (or equivalent experience).
