The road has been long, winding, and full of holes, but Coyote vs. Acme is almost here at last. Against all odds, the live-action animation hybrid Looney Tunes legal comedy film survived being shelved by Warner Bros. and is finally set to appear in theaters in two weeks. It's a testament to tireless fan campaigning, Hollywood pressure, and the efforts of distributor Ketchup Entertainment to ensure the artistic work of so many voices, from stars Will Forte and John Cena to director Dave Green, writer Samy Burch, and more, wasn't simply locked away for a tax write-down. While Wile E. won his freedom in the end, the question remains of how good the film truly is.

Coyote vs. Acme is based on years of history surrounding the titular Coyote and Acme Corporation. After seeing every single one of their wacky products used to catch the Roadrunner over the decades blow up in his face, sometimes quite literally, Wile E. finally says no more and prepares to take the company to court. Helping him build a legal case is down-on-his-luck billboard lawyer Kevin Avery​​ (Forte), who faces an uphill battle against his old boss at the law firm he once worked at, Buddy Crane (Cena). Over time, though, he forges a powerful bond with the Coyote and finds the gumption to unravel the empire of catastrophes the company has constructed, no matter the risk. Those who saw the film behind closed doors after its shelving, like Project Hail Mary duo Christopher Miller and Phil Lord, sang its praises at the time, but now, critics are weighing in and giving the film a big thumbs up as well.

As of writing, the film owns a stellar 94% score on Rotten Tomatoes through 31 reviews, with high praise for the mix of comedy, heart, and Looney Tunes history crammed into the chaotic package. Collider's Taylor Gates echoed those sentiments in her 8/10 review, writing, "From classic slapstick antics to clever dialogue, the comedy fires on all cylinders, but the timely message and genuinely compelling relationships bring it to the next level and make for a memorable watch." Polygon's Brian VanHooker, meanwhile, highlighted the humor first and foremost in his positive review, praising the "big physical gags, background jokes, sharply written one-liners, and Easter eggs for Looney Tunes fans." On the flip side, Screen Rant's Alex Harrison was more lukewarm in his 6/10 review, but did say that, despite its shakiness, it was "an entertaining, often funny movie, powered by a clear-eyed understanding of what makes Wile E. Coyote's endless pursuit of the Road Runner so compelling."
