A Calgary man has been charged in connection with a fatal collision that killed a woman and severely injured two others in the northeast community of Temple last year.

A pick-up truck going south in the northbound lanes of 52nd Street N.E. in the early morning of July 21, 2025, struck a woman in her 50s who was crossing the street. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to police, the pickup continued going in the wrong direction and collided with an oncoming SUV carrying two passengers. The truck finally came to a stop shortly after and burst into flames.

The SUV’s 33-year-old female driver and 35-year-old male passenger were both transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the truck was also taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Rami Hamdan, 26, was arrested Tuesday after the Calgary Police Service traffic section investigated the incident for over a year.

Hamdan is charged with one count of criminal dangerous driving causing death and two counts of criminal dangerous driving causing bodily harm, police said Wednesday in a news release.

At the time of the crash, CPS said it was considering excessive speed as a factor, with no evidence of impairment on behalf of any of the persons involved. Residents in the area who spoke with Postmedia at the time said speeding vehicles had been an issue in the area for years.

Hamdan is set to appear in court on Aug. 28. Police are asking anyone with information related to the incident to call the non-emergent line at 403-266-1234 or submit an anonymous tip via Crime Stoppers.
