When Emma Watson was photographed arriving at George Clooney‘s Lake Como home alone with a totebag in hand, people online didn’t quite know what to think of this unexpected celebrity pairing.

On August 8, DeuxMoi shared photos of the Harry Potter actress, 36, outside the Italian home George, 65, shares with wife Amal Clooney, leading to speculation about whether Watson was working on a project with one of the Clooneys or if, perhaps, they loaned her their villa Airbnb-style.

However, after recent events, our best guess is that Watson’s advocacy work is what brought her to the Clooney’s doorstep.

On August 11, George and Amal hosted a benefit dinner at the Clooney Foundation for Justice in Lake Como which likely means Watson was in town due to their shared dedication to philanthropy. Watson is an outspoken global advocate for gender equality, women’s rights, and girls’ education. She has long served as a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador. Amal, a human rights lawyer, frequently does work with the UN focused on international justice and defending the rights of women and minorities.

Photos obtained by Hola! on August 11 show Amal and George alongside their 9-year-old twins, Ella and Alexander, in a boat on their way to the Lake Como charity event. The Clooneys founded their foundation in 2016 to provide “free legal aid in defense of free speech and women’s rights in over 40 countries,” per the charity’s website.

The couple wed in 2014 and welcomed their children in 2017.
