Finally, a Final Fantasy 14 job made specifically for the type of person who likes to dual wield shields in Dark Souls! The latest FF14 fan festival is taking place, and with that has come a suite of announcements, including a reveal at one of the two new jobs coming as part of the next expansion, Evercold.

We'll get back to in a moment because I know that someone would try to shoot me if I didn't first talk about the fact that a Final Fantasy 7 Remake themed raid series is also coming to the MMO. It's called Beyond the Lifestream, and it's being made in collaboration with the remakes' writer Kazushige Nojima (who's supervising the story), as well as the ever-mysterious Tetsuya Nomura (who's supervising the art design). Not much was actually revealed about it other than that it will have three full tier raids, and that there'll be outfits available themed around Barret and Tifa.

Right, that new job! It's called Bastion, and it's a main tank role paired with some twin shields. The role does start at level 90, so that's something to keep in mind for newcomers. The vibe really is a bit Soulsy at first glance, up until the role's moves get all magitek-like. That's it on details on the job for now, but plenty more was shown off at the fan festival. For starters there's the plethora of new places to visit, like the incredibly blue-looking city of Fargarth, there's also Naglfar, Realmship of Water, a big ole regal skyship, and Hringhorni, Realmship of Fire, another skyship in which we all must agree to not laugh at the second part of its name.

You can expect a few different system updates too. The team is experimenting with how quests play out, in that some main story quests will be playable in any order, though that won't affect how the story will play out. In tandem, to balance level progression there's a new feature called auto content balancing, which essentially sounds like level scaling catered. There'll be more character creator options like a colour picker for eyes, hair and skin tone, with more planned further down the line. And the new combat overhaul, Evolved, will also be coming, with a stream planned to take place at a later date detailing how it differs from the original system, Reborn (which you'll still be able to use).
