Whoopi Goldberg is facing a flood of criticism on social media after her awkward attempt to clear up any confusion about her and Jeffrey Epstein on The View.

Goldberg, 70, owned up to her name emerging in an email exchange between Epstein and a redacted individual in 2013 on Tuesday. She denied any wrongdoing.

Onlookers on X, however, were not as convinced.

Talk radio host Andrew Wilkow wrote, for instance: 'Sunny Hostin's family got rich on the slave trade, now we learn that Whoopi Goldberg was flying around with Epstein.'

Conservative commentator Tara Bull told her more than 1.4million followers: 'If Whoopi was really being transparent, she would've come clean BEFORE Trump released the Epstein files.'

Comedian Tim Young warned his 1.1million followers: 'Whoopi Goldberg asked to use Jeffrey Epstein's plane… It’s in the files. So maybe she should sit this one out.'

The email in question mentions Goldberg by name, and it appears to be written by an unknown person in Epstein's orbit. The writer had been asking Epstein about finding Goldberg a private jet to Monaco for a charity event she did attend.

Goldberg addressed the revelation a full two weeks after it was first reported, by Media Research Center associate editor Nicholas Fondacaro.

Whoopi Goldberg is facing a flood of criticism after her name was found in the Epstein Files

A NewsBusters investigation discovered e-mails showing a person in Jeffrey Epstein's orbit reaching out to financier on Whoopi Goldberg's behalf requesting use of his Gulfstream G2 jet to fly her to a White Feather Foundation charity event in Monaco in 2013

Young was one of several people to point out the delay in Goldberg addressing the controversy on Tuesday.

'They handle it the way you’d imagine they would,' the comic wrote of Goldberg and her cohosts while resharing a clip of the host's on-air missive

'They don't really address it.'

In comments to the Daily Mail Wednesday, Fondacaro expressed similar sentiments.

'ABC has largely ignored the story. They've repeatedly refused to answer my requests for comment and sat on having Whoopi respond publicly for two weeks.

'When they did finally talk about it, Whoopi never offered an explanation as to why Epstein's jet was requested,' he said.

'Once Whoopi's name came out, The View went from suggesting references in the files equaled complicity to arguing that it was no big deal because of Epstein's junk mail.'

Fondacaro added how the hosts only felt it necessary to clarify this mention of Goldberg in the files, and not other mentions thought to be more incidental.

The torrent of backlash came two weeks after Goldberg's name was uncovered, and directly after her Tuesday explanation

Four of Goldberg's six co-hosts were mentioned in the documents, again incidentally from sources like articles and press releases.

Joy Behar, for one, appeared thrice, two of which where headlines about her grabbing comedian Robin Williams, and the third being from a list of people invited to a party attended by convicted Epstein accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell.

Behar, 83, interrupted her co-host's clarification on Tuesday to tell her audience: 'Anybody can be on this list.'

Goldberg, seconds before, had abruptly told the audience: 'Now, in the name of transparency… my name is in the files.'

After reading the message aloud, co-host Sunny Hostin, who did not appear in the Department of Justice release, came to Goldberg's defense.

She emphasized how  Epstein - then already a convicted sex offender - appeared to decline the offer in the exchange.

'No thnaks [sic],' he wrote.

Goldberg went on to insist that she was not a friend nor a girlfriend of Epstein, whom he said would have thought of her as 'too old.'

Four of Goldberg's six co-hosts were found in the files as well, Newsbusters editor Nicholas Fondacaro found. He told the Daily Mail Wednesday: 'ABC has largely ignored the story'

Being named in the documents released by the Department of Justice does not assume any guilt or wrongdoing connected to Jeffrey Epstein's crimes

'I was not only too old, but it was at a time where this is just not…. You used to have to have facts before you said stuff,' Goldberg said.

Behar was quick to point out how Donald Trump's name also appeared in the files 38,000 times.

A mention, meanwhile, does not indicate any wrongdoing.

Attorney General Pam Bondi said in a letter Saturday that 'all' Epstein files have been released consistent with Section 3 of the Epstein Files Transparency Act.

The list of names includes 'all persons where (1) they are or were a government official or politically exposed person and (2) their name appears in the files released under the Act at least once,' the letter said. The names appear in a 'wide variety of contexts,' according to feds.

The Daily Mail has approached ABC News for comment. The show has been on the air for nearly 30 years.
