Police searching for a man wanted in a domestic dispute found him shot and critically wounded inside a Las Vegas Walmart the next day, an arrest report released Monday stated.

Authorities said Kwame Swain was shot in the abdomen July 21 after a fight broke out near the store’s entrance in the 5100 block of Boulder Highway.

Surveillance footage shown at a Metropolitan Police Department briefing Friday showed Travis Dewayne Ward, 35, walking past shoppers, pulling a handgun from his waistband and firing at least one shot that struck Swain just after 6 a.m. Police said Ward had been called to the store by his wife, Raqiya Halima Smith, who was with another woman, Ameea Blue, when they got into a fight with Swain outside.

Police have reported that Swain was fighting with his girlfriend, Zsejhuana Saunders, and “said something” to Blue and Smith, and they exchanged words before Blue tried to punch Swain, who swung back. Saunders tried to break up the fight before Smith punched her.

Security broke up the fight and both parties eventually went into the Walmart before Ward arrived, police said. After the first shot in the store, Ward tried to shoot a second time but his gun malfunctioned.

Ward was shot and killed by an officer just outside the store’s entrance moments later, police said. Swain was transported to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center in critical condition, but police said Friday his condition had since stabilized.

Metro had received a call on July 20 regarding a domestic dispute involving Swain and Saunders.

She told police Swain pushed her onto a bed, slapped her in the face, dragged her by her hair and repeatedly kicked her in the face inside an apartment, according to Swain’s arrest report. The woman said Swain left the complex, and the report stated that officers were unable to find him that day.

The report did not say why Saunders and Swain were at the Walmart the following day.

Swain was arrested after the shooting and faces charges including attempted coercion constituting domestic violence, a felony, and three misdemeanor counts of battery constituting domestic violence.

Smith and Blue were arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention Center on conspiracy to commit battery, battery with a deadly weapon and disregarding the safety of people and property resulting in death or substantial bodily harm.
