About the 6th international workshop on Seismic Anisotropy, Heterogeneity and Dynamics of the Lithosphere-Asthenosphere System – ADLAS 2026, held at chateaux Liblice (Czech Republic) on May 25-29, 2026

The ADLAS 2026 workshop was the sixth one in a long-standing series of international meetings held in Czechia every ten years since 1976. The workshop was convened by J. Plomerová (IG CAS, Prague), and co-convened by Shun-ichiro Karato (Yale University, New Haven, USA), Claudia Piromallo and Silvia Pondrelli (INGV, Roma and Bologna, Italy). The meeting ultimately […]

The meeting ultimately hosted 50 scientists from 14 countries: Italy (8), Germany (6), UK (7), Czechia (5), USA (4), Spain (3), Australia (2), Canada (2), China (2), France (2), Hungary (2), Norway (2), Poland (2), Croatia (1). Among the participants were 20 Early Career Researchers (ECRs) from Italy, Germany, UK, Hungary, Croatia, Poland and China, who actively presented and discussed their research in the workshop. Thanks to supports from the ORFEUS Community Project Support Grant and the International Lithosphere Programme (ILP), the workshop registration fee could be reduced significantly for 13 ECR participants.

The scientific program included 31 oral presentations and 21 posters. The majority of the contributions concentrated prevailingly on large-scale seismic anisotropy in the Earth crust and mantle, both in the continental and oceanic lithospheres, sub-lithospheric upper mantle, and on the Earth discontinuities. Several presentations also introduced significant methodological advances and their applications to different tectonic regions.

The program included 7 keynote lectures delivered by leading specialists in the field – B. Romanowicz, A. Ferreira, M. Faccenda, J. Park, B. VanderBeek, C. Rychert and C. Eakin. These keynotes covered major scientific themes and stimulated extensive discussions throughout the workshop. Friendly discussions of both senior scientists and ECRs following oral presentations and during the poster sessions contributed to the exceptionally collegial and productive atmosphere of the meeting.

In addition to four daily oral sessions and posters sessions, the scientific program included two evening sessions. The first one was dedicated to ECRs and the second evening session focused on the AtlanticArray project in preparation. Scientific program and abstracts of the ADLAS 2026 workshop are freely available at https://www.ig.cas.cz/en/international-workshop-seismic-anisotropy-heterogeneity-and-dynamics-of-the-lithosphere-asthenosphere-system/.

Financial supports from ORFEUS Community Project Support Grant, the ILP-supported workshop, and from the Task Force 4 CoLiBrI – Continental Lithosphere Broadscale Investigation of the International Lithosphere Programme are greatly appreciated.
