The property at 1233 Rock Rimmon Road in Stamford, which was built for the publishers of The New York Times in 1900, has been listed for $75 million. 

A Stamford estate that was built for the Sulzberger family, the publishers of the New York Times, has hit the market for $75 million.

The European-style stone manor, known as Hillandale, was built in 1900. Stamford property records indicate that the last sale took place in 1992 with the Haroche familly of Liberty Travel fame taking ownership of the estate. The Haroche family are the current sellers of the property, Kristina Helb, Vice President of Global Communications for Sotheby's International Realty, told CT Insider.

The house has previously hit the market, but this estate has not been offered since COVID, Helb said. She noted that the current owners have restored and upgraded the property with more than $30 million in improvements, and additions that have doubled the size of the manor home. 

It is currently the highest priced house on the market in Connecticut, according to Zillow records.

Located in both Stamford and Pound Ridge, N.Y., the property spans more than 268 acres across 18 tax lots (173+ acres in New York, 95+ acres in Connecticut). The manor house on the property is 15,944 square-feet with eight bedrooms and 14 bathrooms with 18th and 19th century sculptures on entranceway from the circular driveway, gold-plated faucets and an 18th century royal crest above bronze front door. The first floor of the house boasts a reception foyer with limestone floors and skylight which is believed to be an an unsigned Tiffany, hand-carved English pine paneling from the 18th century and an indoor pool wing with an Olympic-sized pool and 18th century Triton water fountains imported from France, according to realtor Leslie McElwreath with Sotheby's International Realty-Greenwich Brokerage.

Antique marble, limestone, onyx, mosaic tile and stained glass are located throughout the house, giving it the look of a "bygone era," McElwreath noted. A paneled library, conservatory, billiard room, sauna, gym and 11 fireplaces can be found within the house.
